That assessment is most telling. And that you've never heard of Wilco speaks volumes for your taste and knowledge of music.

Again, nothing wrong with FF, but I just don't find them very interesting, original or inventive.

OTOH, I think that Wilco is all of that... and much - more and probably one of the best working bands in the country.

Tweedy's volume of work dates back to Uncle Tupelo in the early 90s and his catalog is deep and diverse. A master songcraftsman with a great nose for interesting arrangements. He has not put out a bad album in the the 18 years. His song contributions with collaboration stints with Golden Smog and Bill Bragg (Woodie Guthrie/Mermaid Avenue sessions) are tasty too.

I'm not sure what you mean by hippie, but if you walk on any major college campus and ask who is better, Wilco or FF, the response is likely to be "Foo Who?"

There's no use in debating with someone who has never even heard of them, as if you had that type of intelligent taste in music, you would have already heard of them. No shame in that, but I'm not alone in feeling that Tweedy is for the thinking man...and FF.... uhmmm, not so much. I'm sure the likes of Umphrey's McGee, Lotus, Disco Biscuits, moe. or The Steve Kimmock Band sail over your head at warp speed also.

But the real story is that Wilco even got nominated for a Grammy (for best Rock album of the Year). I think the new album The Whole Love is probably the best thing he's ever done and that is saying a lot. Most of my fellow Wilco fans disagree with my feelings about the new album though (they all like it a lot but don't feel it's his best). The fact that he can put out such a strong album (18 years after starting Wilco) means he has not lost his muse.

Your mileage obviously varies. Keep enjoying the paint by numbers FF and I'm glad you like them. Viva la différence .

Wow. This is interesting. Wilco is a required taste. So are the FF.Not a bad taste. I actually like them. FF are better. IMO More exciting to watch. More difficult for me to play on Guitar. Much more difficult song progression, much tighter live. Better musicians all around in my opinion. My opinion comes from a different perspective though. I toured for 10 years on the road with guys like P.O.D., Switchfoot and Skillet. I still think Switchfoot is underated only because I know how much better musically they were than everybody else they played with. I remember when FF first came out. I still remember saying they will probably suck so bad and I felt bad for the drummer who was still trying to relive the nirvanna days. I was wrong. I don't own a single FF album. I do have a Wilco album. FF is still on another level in my opinion.

Yeah, ummm, guess we're gonna have to agree to disagree. I'm going to go ahead and disregard your argument because you're comparing 10 different fruits here, not just apples and oranges. I just like A LOT more yelling / aggression / overall livelyness to my tunes.

College campus? WTF do I care about some college kids opinion on music. That's almost as effective as going to Best Buy and asking the same kid about technology. If you're trying to stay relevent with that co-ed crowd for the sake of the ladies, I get it, good luck.

i just love that my daughter has someone to look up to that doesnt strip on stage, post videos of smoking synthetic weed, on the cover of magazines leaving nothing to the imagination, etc. it is definitely not her vocal talent!!!

No, she just sings songs that sound like the ramblings of some psycho stalker chick that will eventually boil the family rabbit. Yeah, she's a great role model.

That should be "you're"....

Well, she is in a class all by herself. Although Bieber could give her a run for the no talent title.

Let either one sing without a microphone and mixing board to make them sound even halfway decent and the career would be over....

Speaking of Beiber, someone tell me just how he keeps Selna Gomez satisfied. I just don't see him keeping that Latin fire happy. No way she that fruity looking kid knows how to make her feel like a woman. And you can just see by looking at her that she has needs.

Ok, how did none of you catch the 2 Stargates behind the DJs that performed before the Foo Fighters? They looked like authentic props. Great way to recycle.

I'd pick her over the alternatives any day my friend! You can stick with Hannah deep throat Montanna! I'm not worried about my daughter boiling rabbits, my wife and I trust the way we have Raised her thus far.

Wilco, like Dylan, Neil Young or Joni Mitchell --- not for everyone, yet amazingly talented and are an aquired taste

I need to comment on beiber. Where I am not a fan, I have never intentionally listened to anything he has ever done as a tween whatever he is, and every time I see him in an interview I have dueling urges to simultaneously vomit and hit him with a tack hammer. I saw a home movie when he was maybe three or four years old playing the drums and you can't say that the kid doesn't have talent. He just needs to shut the f--k up and go back to school and stop coming off as a worldly scholar.

One performance I was impressed with was Bruno Mars, dude has talent.
Hey, careful man, there's a beverage here!

FP Crazy, you are certainly living up to your handle.

Wilco and the Foo look to me to be two un-comparable bands, judging off their finished products. Apparently I am not enough of a hippie to have cought on to Wilco so I YouTubed about four songs. After waking up, they appear to me to be some sort of love child band from the spawn of Tom Petty and the Grateful Dead.

Foo Fighters rock, they are "the last great rock band", not dubbed by me, the creativity on videos, side projects....Many in the music industry would compare Dave Grohl's pinky to others who can't come close.

LOL!

Foo who? At a college? You can't be serious!

You are hilarious! Arrogant much? You do understand their are millions of people with more musical knowledge than you that do not like Wilco. So you are belittling them? I personally know people who have forgotten more about music than you will ever know. And I have never heard them say crap like this to people who disagree with their musical taste. That is what makes music so fun and awesome. Their are dozens of genres and thousands of artists for everybody to love. You are like the self righteous fart sniffing family on southpark!!!

But the real story is that Wilco even got nominated for a Grammy (for best Rock album of the Year). Maybe, but not in my house. We are parents. We parent! That trash isn't allowed in my house. Hannah Montanna/Miley Cyrus is a bad name here. I won't defend my parenting to anybody here even to someone who felt the need to throw a low jab at it. If you think Taylor swift is a bad role model I don't quite know what to say to that.

She sings about stalking guys she has crushes on. How is that a better role model than any of the other tween sensations? And the pure fact that in your home you see her as a role model says a lot. My 7 y/o likes her music too. She also went through a phase where she liked Hanna Montana. But that didn't make her my kid's role model.

Dude, wtf? You have a 7 yr old? Yikes!

I don't view her as a role model! My daughter does! Any body our children watch, sing, and like are role models!!! Are you saying they are not?

You are acting like all she sings about is stalking boyfriends. That is simply not true. Did you not listen to what she sang on the grammy's last night?

Why did you feel the need to jab at me like this? I am about as pissed as I have ever been on this forum. You are questioning me about the thing i hold dearest my family! I would never do that to you or anybody on here, even if thats how i really thought. Let's just say I think you should be thanking your lucky effing stars we are on a forum! You are a straight up douche bag.

I have 2 kids in college and when I drive upstate to visit them, I sometimes get to hang with them and their friends. it's interesting to find out what they are listening to and you do get subjected to some great music that you might not otherwise get to discover. I guarantee you they are not listening to FF. And I'm not talking about the "hipster" crowd. These are intelligent, well educated kids, way up on the food chain above your average Best Buy blue shirter. And they most definitely listen to Wilco.

Dream Theater is an awesome band. Insane music chops. Hard to even imagine someone who likes them, liking FF, but different strokes. We all have our guilty pleasures. I used to like Collective Soul, full well knowing they really suck and record meaningless pop drivel, but again, a guilty pleasure, as they never were "relevant". A very good friend of mine likes CS and also likes FF, but his tastes in music are quite pedestrian and if I were to play Dream Theater or Infected Mushroom for him it would fly over his head. He just doesn't get it.

Now I'll let folks (who don't know me and have no idea of what my musical background or knowledge may or may not be) get back to calling me arrogant, or insinuate that I am a no-nothing about the history of music (his friend has "forgotten more about music than I'll ever know"). Or let me see if I can kick start Shizzle-Dizzle into calling me a "straight up douche bag"

FFs Suck...(there, that ought to do it :)
