And at the end of the day we are all still brothers and friends in AV
Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

My mom died giving birth to me. From the time I was about 5 til my dad died when I was 25 when he died at least once a week he would tell me I killed his wife. The only time I remember him sober was when he was in hospital with liver kidney and heart problems again this goes back to me being about 5...

My dad was married 4 times each time to an even worse drunk than him! By the time I was 16 he lost 7 million dollars in property and business in 1 day because he didn't pay the property taxes on the property's 3 firstone shops paid for and a car wash ... So at 16 I had to pay my own tuition for high school $1800 a year in 1987-88 that ment I had to work after school almost every day ...

At 18 i left home and payed for my own college... Never to come back ... I tried I begged I pleaded for him to get help. He refused.

I also had 3 or 4 2nd cousins OD when I was little.

I have seen drugs and booze kill and destroy first hand. Sorry but I have become numb to it and have zero compassion... It's a choice a person makes and nothing you can do will change that persons mind!

So yeah call me a dick or whatever you people want... It doesn't matter to me.

The only person I feel sorry for is her daughter!

You've had a tough life. No one will argue that. I commend you for making something of yourself despite your upbringing.

What we become has to do with both nature and nuture, genetics and how we were raised. Genetically you were probably dispositioned to be an addict. Your discontempt for your father and the way he treated you probably has helped you in ways that you don't realize.

Addiction runs in my family. I know this and it has helped keep me from becoming an addict, I love me some alcohol. My uncle ran with one of the DC areas biggest cocaine dealers. He started doing coke and then while high on coke someone gave him some crack. It all went downhill from there. The man that I saw with at least $100k in cash on his table one day went to prison for burglary a short time while. He will tell you even now after being clean for over 15yrs that he's still a crack addict.

My Grandmother used to beat the hell out of my father when she drank. So my father has never drank. I don't drink when I've had a bad day or am alone. It's one of the ways I make sure that a demon that I'm sure is inside me is keep at bay.

Being someone that has seen the ugliness and could possibly be one tradegy from that ugliness myself I hold the addiction in contempt not the addict.

Ain't that the truth. And like brothers we'll fight and bitch and disagree with each other but when it comes down to it we'll buy each other a beer the very next time we see each other.

Just look at how we get going on some of these threads. We'll call a guy a dick or an idiot but reply on the very next thread with love and support, maybe we're all bipolar.

Maybe we should start a "My Family Put The 'Fun' In 'Disfunctional'" thread...

So she gets the "greatest singer ever" statement made in eulogy.

Sorry, but the greatest ever? Give me a break.

Yes, it's a sad thing that she died, sad that she lost her singing talent, sad that she married a slug, and sad that she loved drugs more than life as so many do.

Changing the subject. Did anyone see the story about Glenn Campbell and his final tour?

Another sad story for sure...

While I was not a fan of her music, she did have a powerful voice. Whitney, like all celebrities, end up with a LOT of free time and a lot of money. That can obviously be a dangerous combination without positive interests and influences.

What I get tired of is the constant coverage of celebrities and their above the law antics along with the barrage of TV shows dedicated to it. Whitney, Paris, Lindsay Lohan, etc. All of these celebs have immediate access and the resources to deal with their problems if they choose. While they are dealing with their problems their bills are getting paid, residual monies are coming in, so they can completely focus on getting their life together. Regular working people don't have that luxury. Conquering any addiction and running your life as the average person is a giant accomplishment far more deserving of accolades compared to celebs IMHO.

Whitney was an adult and made her own choices. She hooked up with a demon and likely an enabling entourage of those that wanted to be around them.

Yes, it's sad for her family that she died like she did but everyone knows that alcohol and pills will kill you one way or another. It's equally sad for every other family that will endure a similar tragedy with no fanfare.

Make the best of every day. Treat people well and remember to laugh.

Well... at least she made it past the "28" club... Janis, Jimi, Gram Parsons, Jim Morrison, Curt Cobain.
