I sent my Escient E-120 in last August to Panurgy OEM for repair. They repaired it quickly and charged just over 3 bills for the repair. They essentially replaced the HD with a larger unit. Well it lasted maybe 3 1/2 months just out of warranty and now it wont boot up and has a flashing blue power light. I had litterally burned less that 10 CD's to it and probably never played any of them due to no free time. Unit it plugged into a UPS to keep it powered. I have heard of people repairing them themselves and was wondering if somone might chime in on that. TIA

If the hard drive is Completely dead, there isnt much you can do.

IF it kinda works, you can use bit for bit disk imaging software to copy the old hard drive to a new one. the Fireball uses a custom linux OS and pretty much wont boot from anything else.

I've successfully resurrected a few units with hard drive problems over the years. I use "Disk COpy 2.3" which is a Linus based disk imaging program. Boots from CD, you can find the ISO a lot of places.

If the drive spins up, but has problems, you can sometimes freeze it and get it operating long enough to image the drive.

Seriously, put it in the freezer overnight. It works for some reason.

I just reinstalled a fireball that Panurgy repaired on Monday. Its been slowly loading all his music from his computer over the network all week. Slow network. I hope we don't have the same issue
