A rep came to our office today to show us a balun from a company i've never heard of before. TE (Transformative engineering) is the manufacturer, HD-1 is the product. Follow the link to see more: http://www.transformativeengineering.com/It seems really helpful as it carries over 1 Cat-5: HDMI with ARC, IR, and Ethernet (3-ports switch built-in). Anybody ever used it? Any comments? TIA

We've used these once and my buddy keeps a few in stock. They were excellent carrying component video, audio, and IR from thirty feet to 140 feet. Zero problems. In fact, he managed to stack all eight of them behind eight DirecTV receivers. Looks messy but takes up very little room.
I also believe that you will believe in these guys if you check who they are. I don't remember their names, but I was impressed (this from the guy who insists on model numbers!)

ernie, you are referring to the omni balun.
I used the hd-1 on a job where I used the hdmi, rs-232, IR, and ethernet. I worked/works very well. I am passing full 1080p from a sources in a rack through a Geffen 4x4 hdmi matrix(was 4 bluray changers now just media player), up to a local Denon xx11 in an office. I am using the rs-232 for the Denon, IR for the TV and ethernet for local bluray and xbox360. I did not use ARC as it was an older tv.
What I was shocked about was the fact that it not only goes through the matrix but it was spliced twice. This was a retrofit and the rack room is on opposite side of basement to the structured wiring room. It was a timber factory at some point converted to a single family (added I-beams), so it was not the easiest place to add wiring as the builder who first converted it set up four local audio heads rather than one central system. We jumped a wire from rack room to wiring room to office floor plate. Its been working for about 4 months no issues.

The names that Ernie has spaced are Peter Tribeman, Jay Trieber, and E. Tang. Jay Trieber is the President of an electronics service business he founded company in 1979 called The Service Bench, as well as a large integration firm called Home Theater Concepts he founded in 1980. Both are in Norwood, MA. [Link: hometheaterconcepts.com]Peter Tribeman is the President of Atlantic Technology (and Outlaw Audio). He was also the original importer/US distributor of NAD and Proton back in the day. E. Tang ('Tang') was a co-founder of Sherbourn with Ron Fone, and also owns a company called VAC-COM, who make OE components and finished audio products for many brands.

Installers can also buy TE products directly from the company itself.

They do, and by the way, when you run a processor into these directly for IR, the balun has a "stereo" 3.5mm plug which you have to lift the 12 volt off of before changing it into a mono 3.5mm plug. Its on the shield of the stereo plug. Otherwise you will send 12 volts directly to the IR emitter.
They were built to power an IR sensor directly with a stereo 3.5mm plug.
Just saying
