No, sitting in front of it I can press the power button and it will turn right back on. same with RTI remote and OEM remote.

no one else around when testing. USB/232 disconnected as well, no IP control.

It puts it in standby. I think you need to power On again.

You can turn this "feature" off. Menu>Settings>Power Saving>Off

What model receiver do you have? With what version of the software?

This came up in another thread. Would you please verify that you're not leaving out any step at all?

My HR21 cannot do what you say. It can do this:
Menu> Settings & Help> Settings

Then the choices are Info & Test; Display; Audio; Network Setup; Remote Control; Satellite; Whole-Home; Reset; Done.

I have looked and have not found Power anywhere. I have, however, found a thing I never noticed, might be new, might not; that's Options that includes Pandora as the message said it would.

I just remembered that I managed to photograph the notice this morning before I hit any buttons. I looked at it. The notice says to use exactly the procedure you list. Those commands do not exist in that order on my unit and I can't find Power anywhere.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ernie, are you a cutting edge member(DBSTalk)? and running a beta SW?

I dont have the power settings either and have seen them on the new GUI but using a beta SW and now its gone...this may be my issue.

No, I'm not. I think I downloaded a beta once when I forced a software download at home one evening. Deleted my entire list of shows to record and pissed me off mightily.

It turns out that what I've got is the exact instructions that were listed above and in the note I saw this morning, but not the menu capability to carry them out.

HR20-700  59e (Pandora version)

It should be right between Remote Control and Satellite & Antenna

I took a picture, but have no idea how to upload it on this board.

I just received the update as well. If you don't have a dedicated power button for your DirecTV pages, whether it be a touch screen or hard button remote, the OK / enter button (center of the jog / UDLR) turns the receiver back on. I just figured this one out by pressing every button as my pages don't have a power button on them. My receiver is usually always on.

This way, you could tell your customers who may want to use the auto-off feature without having to add the power button to existing projects. I was wondering if someone else could try the same thing and verify it works on thiers as well. At least it's a simple solution....

I was just about to test gwstudios' method but I find that my HR21 is still on from when I wrote my last post, eight and a half hours ago. So apparently DirecTV also has worked out how to do this update imperfectly.

I've got an HR24-500, software 0x59e from yesterday morning. I think I've said elsewhere that I have an HR21. My apologies.

It does not have POWER in the menu system where described.

It's important to refer to the SELECT button as select for a couple of reasons:
*that's what it says on the remote
*there is a different button named Enter

After manually turning off the receiver, the SELECT button does not turn it on.

Guide, List, Info, Menu, Channel Up, and Channel Down turn the receiver on. One push of any of these buttons, with the receiver off, turns it on but does not go to the Guide or the List or Info or the Menu, nor does it change the channel.

I have an HR24-100. Should be the same software. I will check when I get home later.

That is just weird.

Edit: Called wife. My HR24 did NOT get the update yet. My HR20's did.

Mine (HR21) goes to a screen saver mode. It does not shut power off.

Leave your display on and I think you'll find yours does the same.

Oh, yeah. Mine doesn't go into screen saver, either. I wonder why anyone at DirecTV thinks that saves power?

I have no idea why anyone would think that sending the unit into screen saver mode is a good idea no matter what thoughts are running through their tiny little brain.

I also don't know how long the unit has to be on a channel for this idiocy to kick in but it does.

I'm sure that a lot pf people would LOVE to hear the reasoning for doing some of these things.

4 hours without a button press , then it shuts off. Will not affect recordings.
settings, "power saving" turn it off.
why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

Why would they do this , especially at the same time they add Pandora? I forsee many seconday whole house audio recievers on Pandora. Service calls here we come. Simple fix, but just aggrevating. Yall know what im talking about.

I can understand why they would do it. They are trying to reduce "wear and tear" on the harddrives. The entire time a DVR it is running the hard drive, as it is buffering 30 minutes worth of show. If the unit is off, it will stop buffering, and people will then understand why it hasn't buffered up 30 minutes.

I would guess they are having too many units fail before warranty is up, and this will help to reduce their warranty costs. If a unit runs 24/7/365, I would imagine the hard drives may not survive that long. I know high performance server drives are designed to take that, but they aren't priced like consumer drives!

I've seen similar things like this done in PC's, where they do something that reduces performance, or makes the system slightly less nice for the consumer in a way they are not likely to understand, in order to get a small extra amount of life from questionable components.

Hey, an explanation that contains reason and logic! Good freakin' job there!

No sarcasm intended at all.
