I'm looking for a solution to mount small LED TV's above dental chairs. Not a typical ceiling mount but a mount that would actually install the TV vertically across a 2 foot tile. Is there a pre-made ceiling tile tray mount that would do this?

I wonder if you could manage to pull it off with a projector mount and a pole through the ceiling tile? I'll bet you could manage to match the screw holes on a projector mount to a 19" TV.

How about replacing the tile with perspex. Then blacking out the area around the screen and attaching the screen with a bead of silicone to the back of the perspex. Doesn't have to be that exact method but you see where I'm going with it?

i have done several of these, I use the Peerless ST630 and i install a 2x2 piece of plywood above the tile for backer then attach eye hooks to run aircraft cable up and over building structure to support and to act as a safety cable. Works great and takes about 20 minutes to install.

We've done this probably 20 or more times. There is a special mount that matches their other equipment specifically for this. It mounts inside the ceiling above the tile and comes down through the tile. The arm moves around. If you'd like the model I could check it out tomorrow. The name escapes me currently.

You want to look at a commercial projector mount. Plywood is a huge no-no, just think fire hazard. Get the right equipment for the job. Here's the link to the Chief mounts that I use. [Link: chiefmfg.com]The CMS445 gives you the most flexibility. I usually use the CMA455 for projectors. You can probably use the smaller 440 with no problems. The best thing is that you can make the pipe as long or short as you want.

Who says you can't put 61" plasmas up on cantilever mounts using toggle bolts? <---Thanks Ernie ;) |

Cpchillin brings up good point. Although it absolutely depends on whether you are mounting board in a plenum rated space or not. If it is not plenum rated space you are good to go.
Also the CMS is absolutely the best method of mounting projectors in a drop tile Ceiling, I'm not sure how that would help him mount an LCD flat to the ceiling. Unless I have understood, think liming back in dental chair watching tv on ceiling.

Plenum or not, you can't have anything flammable in that space. If it is used as a return air plenum, then there are certain standards for the materials that can go in there, like plenum rated cable for instance, but for fire, the plenum thing is immaterial. Whatever one rigs, I wouldn't rely on the T bar for support. The safety cable mentioned would be a good way to go. By that I mean with the cable or chain, resting the weight on the T bar is OK if it's not too much, as has been mentioned.

For the dentist office all you need to remember, "Is it safe?"

So this is how it worked out. We took a small pole mount up to the ceiling deck and mounted the TV into the drop ceiling cutout. We rigged the TV with 1 pic point to maintain security . Bought some inexpensive PVC trim to trim out the rough edges on the cut ceiling tile. Turned out nicely and didn't take a long time to do.....

Do you think there will be any issues that the tv is gravity towards the screen over time? Picture problems? Only one way to find out. Time will tell. Great job man.
