correct cisco did not flicker but the SA did. When I hooked the sa up I did not check the resolution on it. Subsequently I learned it was not set on 1080. The length of the cable is 20 feet which I know is long, however the darn thing was fine for 2-3 years. Also bluray works fine. I mentioned previously that xbox 360 flickered on 1080 but not 720 but I thought the issue there was I was not using hdmi cable between box and avr. Now I am wondering if we have a situation of signal fatigue. My next step (that someone suggested) is to hook the box right into the projector. I just got 20 feet of cable so now I can do it.

Just ran across this article on 720 vs 1080. It suggests that 720 might be better that 1080 when watching pictures with motion. What do others think?

720P is better if watching 720P channels (i.e. ABC, FOX, ESPN), 1080i is better for watching 1080i channels (most others). Pick your poison. I agree with a lot of what the article has to say but for us it is a moot point.

If your set top box has a native setting that would be best because the processing in displays are typically better than in the provider's set top box. At some point the signal needs to be converted to match your display, it just depends which device does it.

720P might solve your bandwidth problem with your cable but a better cable, balun or signal restorer would be the best solution. Temporarily move the projector and test with good quality short cables < 6ft. If the system works like this it is a cabling problem plain and simple.

You can try swapping equipment all you want but it won't fix the problem. It doesn't matter if some devices work and others don't, your signal is on the cuff. Like being on the edge of a cliff some fall off the cliff and others don't. You can't use analog cable logic with HDMI and digital signaling.
