Thanks for the shout out, longshot, but we would recommend an even better solution.
The digital output on our MMS-2 supports high resolution audio at 24bit 96 kHz. The MMS-5 offers up to 24 bit 192 kHz. That should be high enough resolution to satisfy any audio enthusiast.
Of course, then in addition to local content, you get streaming content from Pandora, Rhapsody, Spotify, Last.fm, SiriusXM, TuneIn Radio, and more. What audio file formats are you supporting?

Client asked me yesterday how to get decent audio out of his computer into his high class 2 channel system. Didn't want sound card output; was talking about USB output to DAC to his amp.
Will USB, or anything for that matter, give decent digital out of the PC for a quality 2 channel system?

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions. |

Try Peach Tree Audio, David Solomon. He taught me more about high end audio than anyone I have ever known. When it comes to sound, he knows what sounds good and how to set it up.

I did the same exact setup from the usb of the pc directly in the Bryston Usb input, and then analog out to the Classé preamp. Sound quality was amazing, much better than using the spdif output of the pc to the DAC in the Classé piece.

USB makes a surprisingly good transport for digital audio. There are getting to be more and more options but I have had great success with the Music Hall DAC25.3 which is a great sounding DAC with a tube output. It is also nice because the output can be managed from the computer's OS.
Supposedly USB is less prone to jitter than optical, but I don't claim to be an expert on it.

Marantz NA7004 or Cambridge audio dac magic! Have you used the Marantz piece? I'm really curious how well it works. I've been using the comparable Denon model because I prefer having an analog tuner over the clugy iRadio. I have a friend of a friend who is the founder of this site http://www.computeraudiophile.com/ that is great resource for finding the best way to enjoy and deliver digital audio. I've been meaning to make contact with the him to learn from osmosis.
