no man, you don't get it, my passion is what makes me read many reports and follow the entertainment industry.

Yet you thought the #1 manufacturer of TVs in US had gone out of business?
Yeah man all the studios are giving you all their secrets.

No secrets. I post the analyst reports that say the same thing. You are simply out of touch with what is going on in the industry. Secrets do exist, but I am not telling you those :).

That is the issue at hand. You guys say the majority does not want quality and I say the majority does not matter.

Then please take a college class in economics and come back when you understand the realities of the marketplace.
I am happy being and catering to the minority. It is more fun.

Great. You should open a shop selling DVD-A discs. I hear audiophiles like high-resolution audio. You can hire all the music execs who were fired for thinking that was the format to support while everyone was moving to ripping CDs. One of them told me DVD-A was “the future of music.”
If people did not answer 100% the same thing, 5% were different on some key questions and 10% on others so the % was small, what you are forgetting is that on 4k that is small but when you expand it to a city, state/province, country small % means lots of people.

You go chase the 10% business Anthony. Major public companies who have built a business on mass market don't get to do that. They have shareholders to worry about, revenues in billions of dollars to protect and grow, and importantly, cash bonuses to earn on financial milestones.

You guys see black and white and only one can exist (what ever the masses choose), I see a million shades of gray and all of them can exist. In every market the masses cover a whole bunch of them but nothing wrong with the rest of them either.

You are fighting us but we are merely the messengers. The movie industry is in turmoil, losing its cash cow for the first time in history. The right answer is complicated. What is not complicated is realizing that the business of past, making shiny discs and selling them, is not the answer anymore.

BTW, you didn’t answer if you were the BD fan who stormed out of AVS. Your writing with its non-coherent but passionate style confirms that you are him. Your emotional investment in BD is as high as the tens of thousands of dollars (!) you have spent buying BD discs. I get that. We all do. But we are not here to protect your feelings. What is going to happen doesn’t care if it is fair to you.

Be serious. You like the entertainment. Anthony and I have talked offline about selling tickets for the fight. He thinks we should charge $1/post. I tell him no one will pay for that. He says he doesn't care what the masses think. He is looking for that one sucker, I mean, member.

Amir,

I'm going to pass along some valuable information that was given to me about 3 pages ago.

You're a logical, intelligent human being.  You'll spend the rest of your life debating this with Anthony.

Save yourself.  Anthony has DVD's to watch.

Anthony, let me ask you a few questions, and if you answer yes to any of them, I'll cut you some slack...

1. If I Google your name are there thousands of articles and threads about you?
2. Did you start a department full of engineers for a major software company with one employee and build it up to over 1400, and manage that division for 13 to 14 years?
3. Have you given keynote adresses?
4. Do you hold any Emmy awards for your advancements of technology?
5. Were you ever a chief technologist at SONY?
6. Do you have a business partner credited with being the father of the DVD?
7. Are you an electrical engineer / bachelor of science?
8. Do you extensively travel the globe working closely with movie industry execs, and top electronics manufacturers?
9. Do you own a highly successful CI business with some of the countries top techs, and several large scale jobs ($200K and on up) on the books?
10. Are you a contributing technical writer for Widescreen Review?
11. Hold 3 patents, with 2 pending?

...Well, Amir can answer yes to all of the above...

If you can answer yes to any ONE of these, I'll cut you some slack, otherwise, I'll mouse past your posts.

Thank you.

So I just spent my afternoon trying to sort discs and covers of all my movies. I didn't count them, but it is somewhere between 150 and 200 discs, mostly Disney and other kid movies. It took probably 3 hours to find cases and all the discs and put the correct ones back together. My kids had most movies in travel cases to watch in the car or on their portable players.

What I found was several movies had been bought twice, either forgetting that we had it, or thought one had been lost. I found about a half a dozen covers that I couldn't find discs for. Two movies that came with both DVD and BD had th BD copy missing (really don't understand that one), and probably 3 discs had no case to be found.

I couldn't help but think of this thread pretty much the whole time I endured through my task. And the one definite conclusion that I reach, without any doubt in my mind, Anthony, you are absolutely nuts.

And that doesn't include afterwards when I had to find places to store the discs

You are missing the point Amirm. People want to lug around discs with them. Same reason why book stores are doing so well right now. Who the hell wants a digital copy of a book? What loon wants their entire library on a 3 pound device?

Yeah, I like my portable battery operated phonograph, but it skips when I walk, and burns through d-cell batteries pretty fast...

Not to disagree with your point but I do prefer books, particularly when I'm outdoors. I grant you that for those who read tend to prefer a, not paying for it and b. reading on line. The real change with print is that fewer read and those that do will not pay for it.

But I am not in the US. So yes, we are talking about a manufacturer that I was never interested in because they make sub-par equipment and they disappeared off the face of the map here and so I was not sure if they went out of business. When one does not try to be navel gazing the data they see looks like

and so such a small operation like Vizio does not show up.
No secrets. I post the analyst reports that say the same thing. You are simply out of touch with what is going on in the industry. Secrets do exist, but I am not telling you those :).

What analystst reports. Your first post was 4k will never happen and your reason was that you said so. Do you mean when you do stuff like link to the article on Netfliux stock going up 11% earlier this year while forgetting that it was a small gain that does not even bring it close to wehre it was last year? Analysts that say everyone wants DD but then dismiss the DEG numbers that show that the vast majority is PM.....?
Then please take a college class in economics and come back when you understand the realities of the marketplace.

I do, do you? As for taking a class, I already taught them.

You go chase the 10% business Anthony. Major public companies who have built a business on mass market don't get to do that. They have shareholders to worry about, revenues in billions of dollars to protect and grow, and importantly, cash bonuses to earn on financial milestones.

What you forget is that for me 10% that spends 50x more than the average person is more than enough for us, and none of us can compete with WM or BB. And for the large corporations that 10% makes the difference between happy shareholders and big bonuses and the opposite. If I said studios will dump DD or something you would be right in your comments. But you are the one that thinks large corporations will leave billions on the table for nothing.

You are fighting us but we are merely the messengers. The movie industry is in turmoil, losing its cash cow for the first time in history. The right answer is complicated. What is not complicated is realizing that the business of past, making shiny discs and selling them, is not the answer anymore.

I am not fighting anyone, and I don’t care if shiny disks dissapear. Let’s simplify it
There are three discussions

1)Present: what are the choices if someone wants good quality A/V? If the answer is BD then there really should not be any more discussion on this, but for soem reason some people say there is good quality DL but refuse to say what it is, and others think because they don’t care that no one should care.
2) Quality: if a product/format gets implemented enough has there ever been a time where “snobs”/”nuts”.... agree that it is better quality and they will stick with it while the masses move away. And to that the answer is no. That is why I pointed to records and CD sales, as well as LD and D-VHS.
3) The future: some people think it is DD. Maybe it is, I never said it is not. What I point out are two simple things, 1) I and my customers are interested in quality and so there is only one choice right now, 2) that before pm vanishes DD must equal or surpass pm in quality.
BTW, you didn’t answer if you were the BD fan who stormed out of AVS. Your writing with its non-coherent but passionate style confirms that you are him.

Yes, I was AnthonyP on AVS, and I did answer you in a previous post. But no, I did not storm out, the forum was a big waste of my time and so I stopped going there, I did post a good bye message but there was definitely no anger in it and the only reason I did so is that I always wonder .what happens when people disappear (did they just leave or did something happen to them) I also wished the owners the best of luck with the site.

Your emotional investment in BD is as high as the tens of thousands of dollars (!) you have spent buying BD discs. I get that. We all do. But we are not here to protect your feelings. What is going to happen doesn’t care if it is fair to you.

Emotional investment? Man you really don’t get it. Why do you think I was talking 4k earlier and I can’t wait for it? Once it comes it will render BD just as obsolete, be it DD or PM, the same way BD has rendered DVD obsolete for me. As for money, the only thing it is good for is to be spent. You can’t bring it with you when you die All you need to do is make sure you have enough of it when you are old to maintain the wanted lifestyle. If I cried for spending it, then I would not have, we all know it is cheaper to rent. I just see more value in being able to watch what I want when I want which is what you can never have with rental (be it PM or DD)

some yes and some no. What is your point, I already agreed that I am nobody while they are has-beens. So if that is what you are looking for I will confirm it again and will tell you that you should skip my posts

Personaly I would ask questions like

1) did you get forced out by your previous employer because you were out of touch with reality and a has-been

2) are you here simply for self promotion?

3) are you willing to say nonesensical stuff like BD-50 is sci-fi or 4k will never happen hoping gullible people will believe you because you are an “expert” while others are nobodies

4)are your decisions based soley on who is paying for what. At one point it is HD-DVD because 30GB means you will get better A/V than 25GB BD and later it is bad quality DL/streaming because quality does not matter.

Personally I am of the opinion fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

Paging: Anthony... 8>)

come on man, I am almost never here on Mondays, I play soccer in the evenings and so no time to come here, and yesterday was Valentines’ day. Some of uys do have a life. But did you really think I would not reply to you?

Anthony, when you go on vacation, do you still use a film camera and have slides made?
