I just had my second call in a couple days of a client complaining that their DIRECTV box is periodically changing the channel to the History channel.

Both units are connected and controlled with IOGEAR RS-232 adapters and RTI XP-8 processors; they were operational months before this issue happened.

I instructed the clients to reset the DIRECTV box with the red button. I am fairly sure that the reboot has fixed the issue.

Sorry if there is already another thread for this, but I wanted to let you guys know if you get the same call. Has anyone else heard of this issue?

Happy New Year!

A funny joke to play on people is to go into their boxes and set timers to time to channels at times. Possible here? :) maybe a clever installer creating a few service calls? Kidding!

I had three yesterday and my own system today. A reset fixed the problem on all.
It was changing back to the channel that was viewed last. And come to think of it all the systems were controlled with IOGEAR RS-232 adapters and RTI XP-8 processors.

You're not alone. Seems to be a RS232 connection.

If you can, it's helpful to quiz the client about watching habits. The guy in the DirecTV forum might have been watching channel 9 before the problem occurred, and davenport's two clients might well have watched Discover, then switched to another channel.

I've had problems show up where four different areas in the house had four separate problems. Once I realized that the four areas always tuned to a particular subset of channels (kids, news in the bedroom, entertainment in the living room, spanish language in the kitchen), I was able to see that it was just one problem.

In this case it could be not Discover channel but Last channel.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I've had the same issues ever since the HD guide update. I'm IP, not RS-232. It was getting out of hand, switching channels 6 or 8 times during a 1 hour recording. The recording would stop and then switch channels. It still does it but not as often now. Annoying.
