im a bit pissed they don't have mac software.
or even a way to view it from a mac web browser.

they sold me hard on it at the show,
and i was using digital watchdog so far which has excellent software for every device imaginable.

i had a client that had 9 cameras instead of the normal 8 so i figured i would try the snap av wire path dvr.

happy to see it comes with rack ears, rs232, and supplied codes (they have control 4 drivers but no crestron modules).

but was very pissed to see no mac software.
what do they think our clients run at home?

id say a very large % of our clients have macs.

crickets..........

you should be pissed at apple not snap! it is ridiculous that there devices cant run activeX or flash. the ONLY way to view any DVR i have used, even DW which is still our standard go to, with a mac is with the manufacturer supplied software. you cant just browse into it. stupid!

but it is so cool using a mac! not in our industry....yet!
I love supporting product that supports me!

Hello motech,

We agree, we are Apple fans too! Hang in there with us for Mac support and several other really cool features that we will deliver in 2012! Obviously we can’t give away all of the details/dates here but you will be very pleased sooner rather than later!

Thanks for your support,

At the risk of being a dope, did you ask them before you bought if it supported your devices?

I think they think that the vast majority of our clients run Windows....it is still what like 85% of the OS's out there. Are you saying the majority of your clients are running Macs at home? We are selling DW to any dedicated Mac clients and Wirepath to the Windows folks....I have had to swing one over to DW so far....

Looking foward to seeing what other feature are added. Support on a Mac would be nice. Do you have a date as to when to expect the 4 channel DVR's to start shipping?

If DVR manufacturers would just STOP USING ACTIVEX then it wouldn't even matter what platform the end user had... Freaking ActiveX...

ediz - you sound smarter then ever.
macs support flash.
mac would support activex if someone made it for a mac.

I'm pretty sure you can't use activex in anything but internet explorer...
why not get mad at firefox or chrome for not supporting it?

the truth is, safari support all web based open standards.
they helped create webkit which underpins chrome.

flash is not an open standard, its a plugin.
you can install plug ins on macs, but not on iOS.

funny thing is, the wire path iOS apps work perfectly.

i would say that at least 80% of my clients have macs at home.
the number is probably higher then that.

many of my clients have 5-10 macs in the home and around 20 iOS devices.

I'm really happy to hear that.
i did not check if they had mac support beforehand.
i just thought i remember them saying they support macs at CEDIA.
i guess i heard wrong.

we only used the snap version because it was a 9 channel and they caught my eye at the show. i like the RS232 and the rack mount ability out of the box….

though my tech did tell me it took longer to set the wire path dvr up then the DW dvr's.

maybe thats something you guys could look at too.

Best,

Great. Thanks for the update G. Paul. I have one, possibly two of the 4 channels sold, so end of this month sounds perfect.

The whole Apple market share is only about 25% for personal computers. Sure, they may be able to write an app for i-devices, but for Apple computers, there's always the option of Snow Leopard and Bootcamp.

Windows 7 is a lot better than I thought Microsoft would come up with.

regardless of what marketshare is,
wealthy clients are likely to have macs these days.

and the fact that they have it working on iOS means that it should be fairly easy to get it working on the mac as they already have a stream thats guaranteed to work on the mac. likely h.264

I thought the same thing but ultimately it comes down to familarity. I'm sure the first time you setup a DW you felt the same way. Compared to Nuvico it's easier.
