I have had several customer whose smoke detectors were chirping and going off for no apparent reason, and then 3 of my own detectors in my house started doing the same thing.

And then

I saw this

" target="_blank">This is recent-->

This is even spookier

" target="_blank">This was a couple of months ago -->

I don't know if this is all connected for sure, It may all be a coincidence, but it is highly suspicious that all these smoke detectors were going off at the same time as all of these high readings started moving across the country.

Bottom line, I guess we should not lick our windshields

both videos are alarming, but neither video is about smoke alarms going off. Both clearly involve collecting some material that has been in the air, then making a geiger count to see how much radiation is present.

Unfortunately, there's no control here to tell us how much radiation would be present on a napkin wiped over a surface in either video if the ambient level of radiation were the normal background amount. Since collection is involved, concentration is implied. It's a scary thing, indeed, but too many facts are missing for it to be science. It's an unknown and it's normal to be afraid of the unknown.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I agree with you, Like i said it could all be a coincidence that the smoke detectors were going bad at several locations almost simultaneously.

I have not even found any evidence that radiation has any effect on smoke detectors so there are several unknowns so far.

Yeah, I don't think it's in any way related.

Smoke detectors have a tiny bit of radioactive materials, and they go off when smoke gets in the way of the radioactivity in some way I don't know about. Thus more radioactivity won't make them go off, but might make them less sensitive in some random way.

I went to an estimate the other day where the customer replaced every smoke detector with brand new batteries and they were still chirping. I told him to simply go out and buy more batteries and try again. I've taken fresh batteries out of the box, installed them, and had the smoke detector start chirping immediately after. Probably just a random coincident!

I watched that episode of Nova describing global dimming a couple of years ago and found it really interesting. It seems more than plausible that the vapor trails left behind from jets could reflect the suns rays in effect keeping earth's overall temperature a degree or two less. Part of me thinks it's impossible for us NOT to affect earth with all of the pollutates we release. But I think it's a little crazy to not recongize earths natural cycle of warming periods and cooling periods. I'm pretty sure there were periods in time where earth's temperature was much higher and we didn't have all of these factories, automobiles, airplanes contributing.

None of this matters because we all are going to die next December ;)

LOL it was sarcasm... i have heard morons point to the winter weather and claim its proof that global warming isn't real. They didnt know that the earths temperature and the weather were not the same thing.

Most of those same people think that scientists have a theory that humans "came from monkeys". I always laugh because no scientist EVER made a statement about humans evolving from monkeys.

Its apes not monkeys!  and that does not work anyway as apes have 48 chromosomes and occipital brains while humans only have 46 chromosomes and no occipital brain architecture. they are also short about 20 deep on missing links.

Back to the smoke detectors.

It is possible that radio active particulates some how take any given smoke detectors radioactive sensor out of tolerance enough to cause it to fail. You can make a magnetic sensor fail by placing another magnet next to it. a smoke detector has a very sensitive tiny sensor, therefore it may be quite easy to overwhelm

It's probably just anecdotal examples of detectors that have been up too long and the sensors are no longer accurate.

Smoke detectors have an average 10 yr lifespan. Replace them.

From the USFA.

"How Long will my Smoke Alarm Last?
Most alarms installed today have a life span of about 8-10 years. After this time, the entire unit should be replaced. It is a good idea to write the date of purchase with a marker on the inside of your alarm so you will know when to replace it. Some of the newer alarms already have the purchase date written inside. In any event, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for replacement."

Speaking of disposing of hazardous waste, have you ever read the clean up instructions for broken CFL lamps?

If not, you should read the federally approved instructions below
