Horrible situation to be in. Just wondering why someone would send cash payment for products yet to be received. I either order, receive and pay in that order. Or pay via credit card and have the protection of the bank, in this climate those are the only two ways I'll do it. I'm small, and can't afford to absorb a hit like that as some have said. At the same time, I play by the rules and expect companies I work with to do the same. It is unfortunate that people are hurt by this type of business (or lack there of) practice.
I do believe that Rick's comment was just that and not a threat. I personally would never act like that, but I do wish I could sometimes.
One time I bought something on Ebay that was fake, nothing big, $40, but the seller happened to live across the street from a field where I played in a league two nights a week. Talk about bad luck for him, ripping off someone on the internet that romped in his neighborhood. I emailed him a few times and got no return. Finally I checked his shipping address on the state's real estate listing and found out exactly who he was. I sent him an email and let him know that I played in a league across the street from his house and would be happy to stop by to pick up a check and save him the hassle of mailing it. I got refunded within a few days, no threats at all, but it felt good to win.

In case you haven't seen it, Joe Pantel made a statement on CEPro. I guess anyone could actually post as Joe Pantel, but I'd assume it's him.
Here's the statement.

His company is now out of business, there was some question as to what was going on with the company. I made a statement that he should step up and explain to the dealers what is going on. He did just that. I don't see what's wrong with that. I'm not nor have ever been a Pantel dealer, but there's not reason to give him a FU. I can site many, many, circumstances where the most succesful people on this planet have filed BK, had significant set backs, companies changed course, etc. Steve Jobs is a glaring example. No reason to pile on a guy who is obviously going through a difficult period.

Because he shut the doors to a company that made products most people couldn't afford in the best economy, just forget about the crap we're in right now. Honestly you have ZERO right to talk shit about him. Did you know him? You said no already. Did you sell any of his product? I bet not. Have you ever been in any legal trouble and had a lawyer tell you not to talk? It has already been said here and I can tell you my lawyers always said the same thing, "Shut up and especially don't post anything ANYWHERE on the internet". You do realize that MOST businesses go under at some point, right? I bet you are saying FU because you think that he screwed someone before he went out of business. Can you name someone he scewed? I don't know of one person that got screwed by him. If I did then maybe I'd say something a little different. Either way I'm sure he didn't make out like the CEO's that ran the banks and other companies into the ground. I would say to everyone to watch what you say because most of us business owners on here are only a bad month or two away from going under. If you busted your ass to stay afloat only to have to fold a business that you put your blood, sweat, and tears into would you want people badmouthing you? I especially wouldn't want people that didn't know me and never did any business with me talking crap!!

cpchillin's statement can also be summed up by asking you to imagine yourself in Joe's shoes, then think thoroughly about what you would do in that case. We all might bluster without thinking that we'd treat people better, but he might have treated everyone as well as was possible.
Then, having thought that through thoroughly, take a few moments and, instead of being negative about Joe, which can only make you angry, think deeply about how you have been blessed and how you are now blessed.

What makes it worse is that one false move and it could put you in a position where you can't recover. I applaud Joe for coming on this website back when business was going well. I applaud Joe for taking care of replacement/defective parts. I applaud them for being innovators. I'm just disappointed that I have a handful of TV's out there with no support and how it directly affected a job we are working on. Businesses come and go so I would call someone a loser because they couldn't keep it going. Bad form!

My apoligies if the wrong company. People were complaining about not ever getting phone calls back. They stopped being easy to get in touch with a little while back and that's when people started realizing something was up.

We have to write off up to 20K a year from contractors going out of business. It sucks but it happens. You can't expect Joe to give those people back their money as most who are in dire straights are robbing peter to pay paul.

Why would one expect Joe to pay back money given his situation, lack of communication, etc?
