Hi all, This is my first time here, so please be kind to me. To make a long story short, I got advice to come here for help. I have a Panasonic 50" Plasma TV, it came with a bonus Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-XW350, all was working OK, I then decided to buy a Panasonic Blu Ray DMP-BD85, and that is when the trouble started. The Remote from the Blue Ray, simultaneously reacts on the DVD recorder, meaning, when I press the power button for the blue ray the DVD will also start up and the TV gets confused (like me) and does not know what to do. If I manually turn off the DVD again and press play on the blue ray the DVD will start up again, I think you know what I am talking about, as I am not the only one with this problem apparently. Panasonic will not address or help nor advice on the issue existing now for over 6 month. Advice that was given to me from another Forum here in Australia, was to change the Remote setting from 1 to 2 or 3 by hitting Enter and pressing the number for more than 2 seconds, but I was advised by another troubled owner not to do it, as he made the remote inoperable after that and had to buy a new remote. So here I am talking to the experts, hoping to find an answer. Thank you in advance. wills42

There is an add on on your TV and your BluRay called HDMI CEC. I believe Panasonic calls it Viera Link.
Essentially what is happening is that the TV and BluRay communicate with each other and it will automatically change your HDMI input. This will make it act "wonky" when you're not expecting it.
Go into the menu of both devices (TV and BluRay), locate the Viera Link icon in the menu in both devices and turn it OFF. Problem solved.

Either change the remote code set for the DVD recorder or plug it into a power strip with a switched outlet and leave it off when not using it. The issue with the TV getting confused is because the DVD recorder plugged into the Plasma TV is done via HDMI and the Viera link is turned on. Samsung has the same connection issues and turning off the communication link through the menu of the TV and the Blu ray will solve the unnecessary switching. Just yesterday with a Samsung LCD and Samsung Blu ray player, turning on the Blu-ray player changes the input on the TV to HDMI 1(Blu ray) but turning off the Blu-ray player after it has switched automatically puts the TV to the tuner and you get to see snow. Directv is on HDMI 2, go figure. I turned off all links between the two.

Go into the menu of the DMR and buried in there somewhere is a setting that lets you set its remote code to number 2/3/4 etc. Set it to number 2 for example and it will no longer control the DMP and vice versa. The manual will have this process listed somewhere under the remote control section.

Thank you, Hasbeen, and gwilly, You both seem to be of the opinion, to turn off (Panasonics) VieraLink. I did not mention this in my original post as I did not think that it might be linked, but now I think it might be connected. My DVD player and the blu ray are connected to a Yamaha AV Receiver RX - V2065. That is then connected via HDMI to the TV both DVD and blu ray are also connected via HDMI. The Yamaha AV seems to be working fine in general and I quite like the sound of it as I play my music through it as well. The Yamaha has its little screen on the front that will show among other things the speakers that are functioning when in use. The issue that I have been having quite regularly, but have never been able to pinpoint is, I will always have full 5.1 channel sound when I play MP3's through the USB port on the AV, or using the Tuner it never fails, but many a time when I play a DVD or blu ray I will always have Video but no sound, no speakers are displayed on the screen yet I can switch over to USB or Tuner and the speakers show up and full sound is available. Now this is always with both units the DVD and blu ray, I can switch over from blu ray to DVD and there will be no sound from either. Sometimes unplugging the AV from the power socket for 5 min will get it to work normal again or just playing around with audio settings will get it going, never one specific fix, the last time I changed the HDMI input socket on the TV and it started it up. The one thing that had me wondering also was I have the blu ray connected as HDMI 1 on the AV and the DVD as HDMI 2 but just as gwilly said as soon as I turn on the blu ray the TV will automatically change from TV to blu ray HDMI 1 and the same goes for the DVD HDMI 1 and not 2 as it is connected at the AV. At the end of a session when I turn off the blu ray the TV goes black in my case no picture and I have to manually reset the TV. Would this also be linked with the whole Viera Link issue and could be solved by turning off Viera Link?? Thanks for your patience and advise. wills42

Try working one issue at a time, works best when facing multiple symptoms. For now, try turning of CEC (Vierra Link or equivalent) on every device you can find. Then see how it behaves. I believe some manufacturers may call it HDMI control.

Well, I think I made real progress, first I turned off Viera Link in the TV, then in the Blu ray, I could not find any way to turn it off in the DVD Recorder, but then that makes sense since the recorder has to be linked to the TV for the programming function to record TV programs. That however still turned both units on simultaneously, so I changed the Remote code in the blu ray from 1 to 3 and the same in the remote control. I left it at 1 for the DVD recorder. This arrangement allows me now to turn on the units independently. Interestingly though both units still get the command from the remote, turning on the blue ray will power it up, while the DVD recorder will momentarily light up and show code1 on the screen momentarily before turning off again, and likewise when powering up the DVD recorder the blue ray will momentarily light up and show code3.
In regards to the Audio problems with the AV they have so far not re-occurred. Time will tell.
My next endeavor will have to be, to set the best audio settings, for the best sound reproduction. There are so many settings I just don't understand the meaning of them.
