Do any of you guys have experience with Airfoil with Airport express?  Here's what I'd like to do.

Airport Express+Airfoil+Airfoil Speaker Touch (for Ipad).  From my understanding, this should allow me to stream througout the house without a problem.

I've installed LastFM, TuneIn Radio, and Sirius onto the Ipad.

Using a Bitwise Control I can use a url scheme to push a button and open the apps. At that point, I can pick and choose whatever I'd like to listen to.

Do any of you see a problem with this?  I picked up the Ipad today and forgot to pick up the Airport express and it's gnawing at me wondering if this is going to work as I'm hoping.  If I can pull this off just using an ipad app rather than a Sirius tuner I'm gonna have a boner.

not really sure im understanding you ..
but you want to stream from ipad to an airport express.
you shouldnt need airfoil for this.

you can stream almost any audio from ipad to airport express…via airplay.

The plan is to use a Russound C Series for the sources and zones in a wholehouse audio system. 4x4 HDMI Matrix throughout the house for Apple TV, 2 Cable Boxes, and DVD.  So at this point, I don't need an AVR.

I'm assuming you're thinking I'll have a Denon AVR in the mix somewhere, but at this point I don't.

Since the Bitwise system specifically uses Ipads for control.  If I use Apps from TuneIN, LastFM, and Sirius, I've provided AM/FM stations from all over the planet, Genres through LastFM, and Satellite Radio shows they enjoy and I don't have to deal with 2 way control because they see it at their Ipad.

So I've eliminated the need for an AVR or a Sirius Tuner, which cost alot more than an airport express and airfoil.  I contacted Apple Support yesterday, they told me that Airport Express will not play anything except Itunes without the help of 3rd party software (i.e.- Airfoil).

BUT...Since I've never used Airfoil, I don't know how well it works.

So that's my plan in theory, I think it'll work. I'm gonna go  pick up the Express today when BB opens.

Is this what you are trying to do? Since there is no "Airfoil" for i devices.

I think there is an app for I devices.  Unless I'm reading this wrong. I first need to download the Airfoil for Mac or Windows, then download the Airfoil Speakers.

But that workaround you showed me is very cool.  I'm gonna see if it will work in about 50 minutes when BB opens.

AirPlay has nothing to do with an avr. Well it does but only because some have it built in. AirPlay is a system apple developed that allows idevices like the iPad and iPhone and itouch to wireless stream audio and video to an appletv or audio to an airport express, appletv, many avrs, etc. Watch this video: [Link: apple.com]

Pretty much anything with audio will play from an iPad to Airport express.
If the app doesnt have an airplay button in it, you just have to launch ipod app and get connected using airplay, then the other apps will stream to the airport express.

I understand that.  The issue is getting Sirius and other 3rd party apps to play through the system using the Ipad.  Using ONLY airport express, from my understanding you can only stram Itunes, not 3rd party apps like Sirius, TuneIN, LastFM.

The workaround for the 3rd party apps is Airfoil.  Again, from my understanding.  If I'm missing something, please let me know.

I posted this before I saw lynxter's response...So what you're saying is I can play Sirius without Airfoil?...All I need is the Airport Express.

Going to BB right now...we're about to find out if it'll work. :)

No AirPlay works with may 3rd party apps. The only one I've found it doesn't work with is Netflix to an appletv. I use many Persian radio apps and they all stream audio and video with AirPlay. You might want to check the other apps out but most support it by now. I know lastfm forsure works. A quick google search of "(insert app name here) AirPlay support" should give you an answer :)

Hope that helps!

Yes you are missing something! People keep telling you, posting links, and you aren't getting it! All you have to do is get the ipod app connected using airplay, then all playback audio is routed through airplay whether there is an airplay button in the app or not.

Bwahaha.  No problem.  Yep.  it works.  No need for the Airfoil.  What threw me off was Apple Support saying that I couldn't run Sirius through it and to Google it.  That's what led me to Airfoil in the first place.

But all is well, everything works.

This is why I love this forum. I had no idea I could airplay Pandora from my iPad or wife's iPhone to my airport express by activating through ipod section. We've wanted to do this for a while. Music Choice gets old after a while. No one tell my wife i read this here. Want her to think im somewhat smart and good for something every once in a while.

Thanks guys.

Check out slacker as well.  You have to lock the ipad and double click the home button to control Pandora...but you can control Slacker directly.  I'm listening to Louis C.K. on Slacker right now.  That is a funny S.O.B.
