It harms us simply because if the lady on tv says we fan do it like this.... It's not about budget it's about doing the work professionally within the budget!
The lady on tv just ran the power cord threw the wall. What do you mean we can't do that and we have to run a new outlet!
Over all the show for the masses is ok but unless they step up the professionalism it's bad for the industry
Not all media is good media I see it both ways!! They need to make it an hour and show us more. Show off the control aspect and describe more in depth why certain things are better then others. Don't show us on camera that you are taking shortcuts, the power cord in the wall. If they do an hour show it really is about 44 minutes. Take the first 10 mins to go over the build, the next 24mins on the build itself with descriptions of why you're doing certain things, and the last 10mins showcasing the finished product. If they did that then the masses would have a better understanding of how things are in our world.

The company that does the installation was featured on CE-Pro "A Day in the life of a custom installer" They seem like they do really good work. I only hope is that this show forces them to cut corners and its not what their true work is like. That's what I don't get. I've actually got to hold the CI firm responsible for the power cord in the wall. Again, I've never seen the show, but it sounds like the host is only on the show for the hotness factor. The cameraman is only there to film it, so in my opinion it's on the CI. He's the one who is supposed to know better. And doing it on National TV? Geez, It's no wonder this industry can't finally gain some credibility. Everytime we get a chance in the spotlight, we end up getting drunk and bangin the babysitter. I don't get it.

The ci knows when he's doing something sketchy, the cameramen, editors and apparently the expert host don't.

How professional... I could care less if the host is hot or 'bangable'. She says ridiculous shit, fosters (and participates in) hack work in full view of the cameras, and the entire premise of the 'three day tech-up' sets unrealistic expectations that ultimately set back our industry.
One of the Roberts guys is a member on IP and knowing the tone of his contributions through the years, I have to give them the benefit of the doubt that this is not at all representative of their work.
The episode at Oliver Stone's home where every single one of the M&K speakers installed completely wrong is just not acceptable to me. In my view, you STEP UP your game when you get an opportunity to work in the home of a respected director...

Now, not only are we dealing with the Geeksquad, Google Shoppers, etc. We have to deal with some jamoke telling us "But that's how they did it on TV, so that's the way I want it too". Again, I've never seen the show, so I don't know anything about the scale of projects that they're doing. But you'd think the Integration company would be sending in their "horses" to do the installs, building the racks "in house" not onsite. And just overpowering the jobsite, very similar to what they do on the Extreme Makeover shows. If you need 3 guys to complete the installation properly, bring in 10 and knock it out of the park rather than cut corners. Actually show the amount of work that's involved in an installation, that will justify the costs to a consumer.

You guys are funny. To say this show is setting our industry back is as equally off putting as the work performed on the show. Janna is a sales person and doesn't need to be extremely techincal plus most peoples eyes gloss over when they hear HDMI let alone HDBaseT or whatever else. In the end it's all about whether or not we met or exceeded our customers expectations. 85% of the poplulation has no idea there are CI's and that our services are not that much more than Geek Squad. I'm glad there is a show displaying what can be done whether it's accurate or not.
3 days is not a realistic timeline but neither is Extreme Home Makeover and millions watch that show and do not have those expectations on their build timeline.

I just watched the Oliver Stone episode today. If Cedia is associated with this hack show, their membership should file a class action lawsuit for poorly promoting the industry. Up until this episode I cut the show some slack because it is really intended for the laymen that are in to electronics but know nothing. Basically our version of This Old House. But when Janna replaced Stone's on wall speakers with in-walls as an upgrade, and then said technology has replaced the need of separate pre/pro and amps for the same quality, I was done. Not to mention the taking down his plasma (which looked like either a Fujitsu or Kuro) to be replaced by an LCD. Being Janna takes credit as being the expert to the stars, I blame her, not the CI firm. No one else here would turn down the publicity if offered to do the show. Especially if you were the first contractor on the show and had no idea how they would edit it.
