One of my customers currently has Verizon Fios with one wireless access point located inside his house. When he goes outside to try and use any wireless device the signal is poor at best. It is an older house with thick stone walls and he would like to be able to get a more reliable signal on his back porch & by his pool. Both areas are located near the outside of the house & there is access in his basement for getting back to the head end.

Instead of installing another wireless access point inside the house I was thinking about installing 1 or 2 outdoor wireless access points outside. I don't have a lot experience with them & wanted to get some feedback.

I am not looking for the cheapest solution out there I am looking for the most reliable.

Thanks,
Matt

Install Luxul and problems end there.

Omni-Wifi works great, especially outdoors. They are completely waterproof and use POE so it is very easy to install.

Something to keep in mind is that wireless signals have a difficult time passing through Low-E glass.  Here on the coast in California most homes have very large windows and often entire walls of glass (all of it Low-E).

This keeps wireless signals from getting in or out.

Most homes now I'm providing separate wireless systems for indoors and out.  I use products from Pakege, Luxul and Ubiquiti.

I wanted to follow up on the posting I made last summer. I ended up using the Pakedge WAP-O3G on the project I mentioned above. It has been very reliable, but I have never been thrilled with the range on it (well at least for how much it costs). We never really got the "acre" of coverage we were promised it was more like 50-75 ft. before dipping down to 1-2 bars of signal.

That job was also kind of a nightmare (i.e. old thick stone walls, old cat5 wiring, two ISP's, two computers with way way to much crap on them, a defective dual wan router, and a very high maintenance customer) so part of the blame might need to be placed on the job. But still if I am standing 70 ft from it looking directly at it and I get a crappy signal and the customer looks at me and says how much was this thing again?

Now that we are getting back into more outdoor projects again I wanted to see what everyone was using and liked. Positive and negative feedback.

I was also interested to see if anyone has found any lower priced option/s that they have had success with. For ex; jobs requiring a lower budget or that use something like Sonos.

I've been using a lot of the Ubiquiti for outdoors... inexpensive and provides great results.

Installed a luxul outdoor unit in the attic of an ICF Foundation home recently. Unit faces down in the middle of a 1acre lot, coverage is excellent.

PicoStation M
NanoStation M
Unifi AP Outdoor

With construction types here in California I have a difficult time getting signal from any WAP that's located inside and almost always have to wire and install outdoor APs for good coverage.
