I noticed a Square email mentioning they will not hold funds as before.

Are you still having good results with Square?

That's correct.  Funds are deposited the following business day. No longer 2 days.

As far as the results, it's awfully convenient. So much easier  to swipe the card while you're standing in front of the customer and email the receipt directly to them.

Has Square complied with the new credit card rules with account numbers getting blanked out except the last 4 digits?

I signed on but never used their service, yet.

Accepting CC does have a couple other benefits, for your customer and you. For one, depending on the card used, your customer may be able to extend their warranty on the products they purchase from you. Believe or not, this can help them in deciding to purchase a more expensive piece. Another benefit is they feel safer using a CC if they do not know you or your company well. While this has not been an issue for me, I do know of at least one guy who was able to land a job over another firm because he accepted CC and they just wanted the protection their CC company provides.

For me, the benefits have included the ease of collecting deposits and get the ball rolling on purchasing. I typically do not order anything until I have their funds in the bank. I have a couple customer that travel A LOT. On two occasions, they gave me their CC numbers while on the road to get the process started. By the time they got home, we were ready to roll and start the projects.

Yes, when you get the payment email it shows the last 4 digits only.

We also use Square and love it. Had a customer pay me over the phone today because he is in the middle of moving into the new home and can't find his check book. Win, win.

I've been using Square without a hitch so far.

Canceled my processing relationship with a bank that had upped the monthly far enough to be prohibitive.

Question: I've always had a separate monthly "fee" directly from AmEx. Can I cancel that one too? Guessing so but can't remember why the fees were separate from the other processing outfit.

Yes. You can cancel Amex. They only process cards directly, that's why you had it seperate. However, somehow, square handles all this. I took an Amex just yesterday and today the funds are in my account.

Thank you!

edit: FWIW, I called AMEX to cancel. The nice lady asked if the $7.95/mo flat charge was my reason for cancelling - she offered to waive all monthly fees other than something like a 2.8% ding for each transaction.

Maybe that will be of help to someone else. I'm off the hook now.
