Hello guys,

I've performed a search and found nothing regarding this matter, so let's see if you may help.

I got an automation project in wich the client want to have the access to his house controled by biometric (fingerprint) readers, so he can determine periods of the day and days of the week in wich housekeeper and such can enter and leave the house and also program specific routines like turning on the ambient music for specific members of the family.

I can gather a code from a serial interface for each user and assign a macro within Savant to perform whatever activities, but I would still have to address the access control within the reader's, wouldn't I ?

Or is there an IP solution that would allow me to manage everything on Savant ?

Do you guys know wich readers integrate well with Savant so we could develop this solution ?

I'm from Brasil so I'll have to try and find it here or buy from the US, so if you got experince with more than a brand/model, please specify them so I can locate more easily.

Best regards,

Mauricio

This is definitely worth a call to Savant.

Our local distributor said "We have no product to indicate, but if you find one that's RS232 controlable we may work on a profile".

So, I'm still looking...

Ekey has a biometric solution that Crestron can talk to by IP, if you can write the driver I do not see reason why it should not work with savant. I am not sure of the level of integration that can be achieved, see the links below for more info:

Your other option is wiegand - any decent access control system will have a wiegand output and that can easily be converted to RS232/RS485. This has a wiegand option:

Thanks Charris,

The Ekey solution seems to have an awful flaw :

"The ekey home CP should always be mounted in a secured area (indoors). If you mount the control panel outdoors, where anybody can have access to it, then unauthorized people could easily unlock the door!"

Not really, any access control system will have such a box, it is a box with relays. You are going to install this box inside the house anyway, so it will be secured. According to your design you can use the relays inside this box to open the door(s) or you might not use the ekey relays at all and Savant relays can open the door.
