I double checked. The guy said he is as serious as a heart attack. He said if he is going to be spending the day working in the thing , and he owns the dozer, he wanted to have all the amenities. He would be content having HD off air and DVD/BD (only on his breaks if need be/ if disk wants to skip.)

So my question to you guys. Are there any 12V surround receivers or BD players available? If not, should I just have the Caterpillar dealer install a battery backup with 110VAC?

Seems easy enough if I can get small enough stuff (not much room in cab,) and get proper power. Or if you guys think I'm smokin dope here, please speak up.

What size will the TV be? If it's not larger than 32", 720p will be fine. If space is limited, it will be tough to get everything to fit.

Be sure ceied sees this. He works in boats. The dirt's just a lot wetter in his cases.

Be sure, also, that anyone who might run into his field is aware that his attention might wander. And -- Watch out for that tree!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

If he wants video, I wouldn't touch this. The liability here is astronomical. The products you are looking for are available from all of the major 12v companies like Alpine, Kenwood, and Pioneer.

the new samsung BDD7000 is tiny and comes with a 12vdc adapter that could be cut off and hard wired to 12 volts.  This is what we have started using on our boats.

or you could just go with a power inverter with a UPS backup.

Does this mean you have power supplies for TVs? I need a couple for Sharp LED TVs that were take-outs from a boat. One is 15" and the other is 22".

Please elaborate. You mean from vibration?

Just a 12-15" TV is fine.

sorry, i didn't mean to imply that we cut off the power supplies.  We almost always have 110vac available.  I was just suggesting that this model would work for him since he needs a 12v unit.

No, from putting a video screen in the line of sight of a person operating heavy machinery, and the subsequent death of a person who should have been in the line of sight instead.

I can't see how you could put a display ANYWHERE in that machine without an accident being blamed on your work.

I've never seen a power supply that's 15" or larger, except for a rack-mount one that was 19".

Okay, I knew what you meant. Look for the voltage and current that you need on ebay. Lots of TVs and monitors use 19 volt supplies and are available all over.

I get the liability thing. Why not do what we did in the DVD video craze and install a kill switch? We used to wire a kill switch that closed contact when the parking brake was raised. Then we would have the client sign a release indicating not to operate the video system unless the parking brake system was engaged. Then we would take the client into the car/SUV, close the door and say "whatever you do, please do not tamper with the parking brake safety switch that we installed by splicing the red and blue wires together as that would allow the video display to operate while your vehicle is in motion..."

could you use one of these: [Link: pioneerelectronics.com] and a bunch of car stereo amps?

I have that unit in my car....Ive used the DVD options for about 2min when I first installed it.

oh and FYI on the liability issue...even if the e-break switch isnt installed correctly you just get a pop up when you start the unit but itll still play DVDs while the car is in motion.
