I think I heard something about it going from $9 to $8 for instant only. Is that what you're referring to? I never use Netflix. I'm a total VUDU whore.

it was 9.99 for unlimited streaming and unlimited discs one at a time.
Now it is changing to three plan options, 7.99 for unlimited streaming no discs, unlimited discs one at a time no streaming, or 15.99 for both

not from clients, but http://blog.netflix.com/streaming only has not changed, but Streaming+ disk has gone up a lot but now you have the choice of disk only. This applies to new members immidiatly but to old members in Sept. So for example the choices streaming only = 7.99 1 DVD = 7.99 1 DVD+ streaming = 15.98 while before it was streaming only = 7.99 1 DVD+ streaming = 9.99

2 DVD + streaming = $20
Price changes take effect Sept 1.
Hoping they offer more streaming options soon.

i was just reading an article, 60 % price increase is alot. But when you look at it from their view i cant see how they are making money on the streaming service. the amount of bandwidth/storage required to keep that going has got to be close to unimaginable.
to tell you the truth, im surprised they offered it this long without charge or price increase.
over 3,000 people have posted on their FB/Blog blasting the company for increasing the prices, even though it sucks; if it keeps their head above water so i dont have to go down to my non existent blockbuster i certainly back them up 100% :)
besides, until they get some better content on the instant ill stick to my 1 Blue-Ray out at a time deal

I read something about the studio's wanting to triple Netflix's cost, so I would think the price will jump. The article also said Netflix is the largest consumer of Internet bandwidth with like close to 30% of all internet traffic.

I didnt even think of the studios, all of a sudden the no name garbage in the instant area is starting to get some exposure.

Dear John,
We are separating unlimited DVDs by mail and unlimited streaming into two separate plans to better reflect the costs of each. Now our members have a choice: a streaming only plan, a DVD only plan, or both.
Your current $9.99 a month membership for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs will be split into 2 distinct plans:
Plan 1: Unlimited Streaming (no DVDs) for $7.99 a month Plan 2: Unlimited DVDs, 1 out at-a-time (no streaming) for $7.99 a month
Your price for getting both of these plans will be $15.98 a month ($7.99 + $7.99). You don't need to do anything to continue your memberships for both unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs.
These prices will start for charges on or after September 1, 2011.
You can easily change or cancel your unlimited streaming plan, unlimited DVD plan, or both, by going to the Plan Change page in Your Account.
We realize you have many choices for home entertainment, and we thank you for your business. As always, if you have questions, please feel free to call us at 1-888-357-1516.

We have had to have 3 DVD + streaming, even thought today is the first set of DVDs they shipped in over a month. Why you ask? Well, the streaming only, or 1DVD + streaming has limited number of steams allowed (1 device I think). To get to a reasonable 4 streaming devices, we have to have the 3 disk plan. Otherwise, I would have to log in to netflix and delete authorized device on a continuous basis to change between the PS, laptop, desktop, etc. devices that we use to stream.
As for why I haven't had a DVD shipped in over a month, well... out of my 40+ movies in the que, 5 released this week, weeks after Stores, Blockbuster and even Redbox had them, rest have not even announced the release dates.

As soon as I received the email from Netflix I canceled the streaming service and went to 1 Blu-ray out at a time. All the Netflix movies are so old that streaming is just not worth it for me. I would much rather pay $6 per movie via vudu's HDX streaming for movies that I need to see sooner. HDX quality blows Netflix away.

The price increase doesn't bother me at all....
What with the low quality movies available I see no need for Netflix.
For quality movies I'll buy the disc....
Think about it.
The movies that come out on disc, or go to streaming, are so bad they aren't worth watching once, let alone more than once, so they end up on Ebay and Amazon at bargain prices within a very few days of the release dates.
The few movies that are actually worth watching more than once end up in the same places, it just takes a bit longer. And for me, I can wait 3 or 4 months for the good ones...

Personally I don't think Netflix offers enough to justify these prices. While they do need to raise capital and commitment levels to get the hardware and more importantly the contracts and legal power, I have never been very impressed with the interface or service as streaming goes. I wouldn't pay $20 a month to go through the growing pains with them. I would rather pay for Hulu and split my time with Vudu and pay as I watch. This will probably be one of many price increases to come.

Someone mentioned their licensing fees were tripling. They aren't. They are going up 10x. From 180 million in 2010 to 1.8 billion in 2012. I personally don't see how this is a business model that works. Their licensing fees are going to keep rising until they are priced in with cable/sat and customers start ditching them too.
I'll be cancelling netflix streaming as soon as my son gets tired of the 1st seasons of Diego and Barney they have available. That's the only time it gets used in my house.
