Yawn.

For 18 months, they had different lanes closed at the intersection of the 405 and the 101 (where the 405 north and the 101 north intersect at right angles with at least five miles of straight freeway in each direction) and they kept referring to this as one of the ten most busy freeway intersections in the US.

Yawn.  Very little change.

This intersection is the north end of the section they're going to close for several days.  Yes, I've got clients in the valley, but they're not going to see me for at least a week!

Compare this to my visit to Seattle four years ago, where they had about a 200 foot stretch of the 5 (up there they call it 5, not the 5) closed near the airport, and it was top news in every news broadcast for at least the three days I was there.

Different places have different traffic patterns.  This one will be fun to watch, but I'm not a victim and I won't be anywhere near there.  I'm forty miles away and I'm sure I'll see idiots nearby slowed down by it.

I scheduled a job in orange 3 weeks ago for this Friday. Its a few exits north of the southern most tip of the 405. Should I be worried? Should I reschedule?

Sound, it sounds like you just just stay home and watch Netflix. Just reschedule for after the construction is done.

Reminds me of the 1980 TV movie Gridlock, The Great American Traffic Jam.

[Link: imdb.com]

Program Synopsis

A series of freak accidents on the Los Angeles freeway traps a cast-load of familiar TV faces in an astounding traffic tie-up, with the entire system caught in a gridlock that John Beck, as a traffic expert, endeavors to unsnarl. Howard Hesseman plays the voice of an unseen radio disc jockey whose happy-talk commentary throughout keeps the stranded motorists entertained.

You should be fine Corey but its very possible the 405 may congest back up the entire length. Supulveda can not handle that kind of traffic. One fender bender will result in a complete shut down. I would rather be safe and reschedule. Talk to your clients and get their feelings on it first. They may know a few travel secrets in the area.

The southbound 405 will be closed for 4 mi. between the 101 Freeway and the Getty Center Drive exit.

The northbound 405 will be closed for 10 mi. between the 10 and 101 freeways.

I heard some pundits saying that if nobody stayed home, the backup would be about 60 miles in each direction. If even 20% stay away, it should be about ten to fifteen miles. Therefore Orange County should feel little of this. Maybe.

They've had signs by the side of the freeway announcing this for three or four weeks. On freeways that don't even attach to the 405, too!

You have to be a REAL dummy not to know this is coming and yet to live in this area. Unfortunately, some "man in the street" interviews have come up with people who still don't know about it.

Maybe those people walk or ride the bus to work. ;)

I'm going to a real Madrid soccer game at the LA colessium the day they close down. I'm Leaving the house at 3 just in case even though the game is at 7. The traffic gets crazy for these things and a lot of the 405 is closed so we aren't taking any chances!

I still think he should be ok taking the 5 to the 55 but he could also take the toll road over the hill to the 91 West to the 55 South to Orange.

Interesting things have happened on my birthday like the opening of Disneyland and also Russia and the United States of America joined space ships and shook hands, So we will see what comes of this situation. Its a good weekend to be where I am currently living.

Edit
The video at the begining is just normal conversation had with oneself everyday driving around So Cal.

Elvis and babe ruth both died and my birthday and madonna was born. All prior to the most important event of that incredible date.

Just checked with the client. He is recommending we postpone based on traffic.
