I looked at a project today, security company wired the house a while back, maybe 2-3 years ago. The house was never completed, and now it is resuming with a new bulider and hoping to find a new owner.

The wiring doesn't make sence to me, the 16/4 and some cat 5 runs to one closet, the component to another with cameras, data and cable, maybe one closet for video distribution, another for audio? but why would you do this. Also no keypad locations anywhere.

Anyway, to some TV locations they ran RGBHV with 2 cat5, to others they ran some Isotec 22 AWG CMG. It contains four bundles of shielded 22/2. What would connect to this wire for video?

I'm not too worried, the new bulider doesn't have a problem with fixing holes, but I don't want to have to retro a 9,500 sq ft house.

thanks

Not the proper gauge but maybe that was their way of getting a cat 5 equivalent wire. It is 4 pairs I guess and most likely don't understand cat5 and its benefits beyond just copper.

Any loops from the video to audio distribution?

My guess is they ran that for audio and composite video via solder rca's. Or hell they may have planned to do component with it. I saw it being used to get video to crestron touchpanels at a clean up job.

I used to wire retail store demo rooms, using digital switching systems. The couple of times when there were failures, they affected more than one thing. I learned that it was worthless to try to fix one symptom until I had made a complete list of all symptoms. Once I had that list, I could see, for instance, that the second most significant bit of the relay address was stuck on or off. It was impossible to see this looking at symptoms one at a time.

Make a complete wire list here. Then look it over to see the patterns. It seems you've seen some of it now, but if you have a complete list, you'll know just what they've done and the sense of it might pop out at you while you're looking at the list. THEN you'll know what you have to do.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Wow. You are going to have to retro some cables or the minute you touch it your name will be attached to it. Sounds pretty crazy to me.

i used to use shield 22ga sometimes. i had 2 500' boxes left over from old jobs yrs ago. sometimes u got to do what u got to do? i used the shield pulled w rgb component to displays to do ir or an emitter. its money that has to be used somewhere.

the 16/4 and cats go to kp/vc locations. they are just burried in the wall. if its a rough or pre wire, why not bury them, make a diagram and your good to go. dont bust your ass and make it easy for joe shmoe? i bet he has a diagram and knows exactly where they are.
