One of my customers just had a fire in his basement. (popcorn popper).  He works for one of the Big 3 and expressed interest in an American Made TV at our last visit.

I know Nexus is an American Company.

I believe Vizio is also an American Company.

Although these are American Companies, their products are manufactured overseas.   I don't want to get into a debate over American Vs. Foreign, and who makes what where.

I'm just doing my due diligence for a guy who wants to support the American worker.

Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

Bypass the tv and push american made speakers and components. Better value and performance for your client.
Being here I run into it often. There is no benefit in the display being from an american company.

Displays use hugely integrated parts, not lots of discrete parts, and the demand is HUGE, so they've mostly been converted to overseas manufacture to take advantage of overseas labor rates.

longshot's right -- and you can expand your search for American products to anything that's truly custom built, or built in small quantities, of discrete parts. I'd guess there are American tube amps, definitely loudspeakers, etc.

Also, I might be wrong but I'd think something with a low dollar/volume density is less likely to be made overseas. That is, wire; it weighs a lot, so is expensive to ship, but doesn't sell for a huge price. Tell him you're using American wire (so the sound won't have a foreign accent).
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Arent all panel manufacturing facilities in Asia? There may be some assembly facility in America, but I thought all the panels come from a very limited number of manufacturers.

Yeah, I believe you're right.  I think he would be happy enough with an American company that has the manufacturing done in Asia.  So it looks like it's going to be a Nexus or a Vizio as far as I can tell.

Yippeee.

I wonder how much of his American made cars comes from overseas? I know the Charger and Challenger are made in Canada with the Hemi engines coming from Mexico. I guess North and Central America count as being made in America. And if you look at it that way, then there are alot of TVs being made in Mexico. Sharp and Samsung both have plants down there, they are as American made as those Hemi engines.

The 2 most "American" cars are still "Imports"

I dont believe there is a Single car that is 100% Made in the USA with all United states parts.

the recent trend of counting Canada in "Made in America" is quite clever actually....

Sell him a Panasonic.

 Hey Trunk,

Vizio is not made by LG. There partner company which owns a percentage of vizio is Amtran from Taiwan. Vizio contracts them to make their TVs.
Vizio is a California based business though.

as a side note about the subject, even though the parent companies are overseas for most major tier one TV manufacturers they all have major U.S. based operations and employ hundreds of americans. Would that reasoning help to offer more choices of TVs? With TVs its really tough.

There's a difference between "made by" and "make their"?

Isn't that the same thing? Vizio contracts LG to make their TV's, so the TV's are made by LG......

You seem to be splitting a hair of some sort that I cannot grasp....

Vizio is a California based business though.

Not really relevant. The product is NOT a USA made product.

A company is based in North Carolina, yet they have product made in China and they resell it.

Sorry, it's still Chinese crap....

Sorry, it's still Korean crap.

Crap is crap. A rose is a rose...
