I've noticed when i do office work my wrists really start to bother me. I have a chair that is probably 10 years old and the desk possible more than that. The desk is nice hardwood, custom made and was given to me. the problem is that the keyboard tray isn't wide enough for the mouse, so I have a piece of wood across a drawer on the right, but its less than ideal. I've noticed that many ergonomic desks are simply lower. The total height is more where my keyboard tray is now, and they don't have a keyboard tray.

I need to look around, I don't have money to spend on this now, but my desk has been bothering my for the last 2 years and I think If i don't get a new one I'm going to develope issues in my wrists. Probably get a new chair at this time as well.

My fav desk is a 6' folding table with the keyboard right on top. I can keep monitors at the back edge and i have plenty of space for mouse keyboard notepads remotes whatever.

i'm very big into ergonomics. the below desk was custom made for around $150. it's basically an L shape where the inside intersection of the two rectangles is filled in with a triangle so that the resulting space is exactly what i need to rest my forearms when pausing a moment from typing. (the "metal" is a laminate over doubled up 3/4 plywood, and the legs are simple 4x4's.)

the craftsmanship is all but absent, but for $30/hour it took a carpenter just a couple of hours to bang it out. if i did it over, i'd make the surface twice as big.

If it's not simple, it's not sufficiently advanced.

I keep saying I'm going to mount that keyboard tray and get my keyboard down where it ought to be.

Mine is an IKEA forty or so dollar desktop, and it's crap. It's given me more than a year, though, to figure out what I want.

1. A chair that does not have the pillow-looking thing at the top. It looks cool, but I'm 6'4" and those simply make me hunch over if I lean back far enough to touch them.

2. Adjustable height chair.

3. Chair that can rock. I can change my foot position, which changes the pressure on the backs of my thighs just above the knee. (If you're really short you have no idea that this pressure can be lessened!)

4. Keyboard on a tray so it's under the desk height, but that's partially because...

5. two-drawer file cabinet on one side. That is 29" high and the desktop is screwed to it. On the left I've got some $10 IKEA table legs with 2x4s above 'em so the desk is level.

6. multi-drawer unit on the other side. There's no pencil drawer as that's where the keyboard would go, but this small unit can roll out and it has six drawers that store LOTS of office stuff.

7. Dual monitors. The three shown above are even better.

8. Adequate light on the walls around me. Don't ignore the truth that your eyes fatigue more rapidly if the monitor is the main light in the room. We need the background to be about the same or a bit darker than the area we focus on, hence room lighting for TV rooms.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
