i just inherited a 605 with dead hdmi board. has anyone attempted to repair themselves? i just got estimate of $250 to fix. i wouldnt mind using in my master bed or patio if i could fix less than $100 otherwise im chunkin it.

Don't chunk it. Use the component instead! should still be able to use the vga for pc and 2 zone. It is at least a glorified Tuner!

Agree with Nez, nothing says you HAVE to use HDMI!

I assume its out of warranty.

yes out of warranty, but just searching brought up a lot of info regarding thousands of bad hdmi boards in this and many other models. it looks like discussion of a class action is being tossed around. has anyone tried to press this issue with them?

We have sent at least 5-7 606 in for repair. This was a disaster. We almost left the line completely. The quick release of the 608 was enough to prove to us they knew they had a problem. Just call your Onkyo repair guy and he will tell you how many he has had to fix. So far no problems with the 608 and higher versions. The 606 boards suck.

One of my clients has a bad hdmi board. I thought it was from a surge. Any news on fix?

its definitely a flaw in the board, google the issue. lots of info
