My suggestion? Know that you are making a compromise for cosmetics. Make sure the client knows hes making compromises for cosmetics.

Phase makes the PC33.5 to match the Floor standers you are doing. If I wanted the best sound quality, and Phase Technology were the speakers I was going with, i'd be specing that center channel.

the CI110 or CI150 are significantly better acoustical options for the system.

Makes perfect sense. I know that you understand that all of us have to compromise at times with decorators and wife's and so on. I don't want to compromise the sound in any way at all. Keeping the same Brand speakers makes perfect sense to me. The decorator is a well known artist and has custom painted speakers for me on many projects. Sounds like the Ci-110 or CI150 is the way to go and get the painter to paint it with the wallpaper! Yes I said Wallpaper!

why wouldnt you use ID all the way around.

I was hoping I could because I have been dying to use this stuff and yet to sell anything. He just said he didn't want to spend the money and prefered the phase tech line and pricing for this project.

you can biamp with a nice receiver without purchasing another amp. you stated you are doing 5.1, in the menu of receiver (not sure about onkyo) you can set what you want channels 6&7 to be. zone 2, main B, or biamp. will definitely help if you are not doing 7.1

Yes the Onkyo has this option as well and this is where I have never gone personally before. If i select by amp, in the menu option, what exactly am I bi amping? just left and right? What changes?

just the front left and right. i think some denon stuff with 9 channels lets you biamp front three LCR but cant verify, not sure. but if you do go the route of nice receiver and are using 5.1, i would definitely biamp the front L/R. otherwise you are wasting amplifier power. its there why not use it right.

Makes perfect sense. I will see if the 9.2 Onkyo can by amp the center channel but I know the 808 is a 7.2. This helps me a lot. I like the idea of this a lot more than my original idea.

Thanks again RC! I never take this site for granted!

Off to the bidding game!

Am I the only one that realizes the Phase Techs are not bi-ampable? Unless you plan on dismantling and rewiring the speakers, you will probably fry them and your receiver if you try to bi-amplification. You would essentially be running a jumper from the main outputs of the receiver to the surround back outputs, and I'm pretty sure that is bad.

I bi-amp the mains in my personal system. I removed the crossovers from the speakers, and use two seperate power amps fed through a pro audio crossover. Some of the Induction Dynamics may support bi-amping, but I wouldn't want to try it with just a receiver on some of those monsters.

Nezbo - you should definately speak with your techs about bi-wiring and bi-amping before considering either in this system.

Very understandable.

All bidds go through our tech manager who oversees what our sales guys are trying to bid before they reach the customer. Some phase tech speakers are capable of what we are talking about but we were talking about what the Onkyo receiver is capable of not the speakers. Thank you for your input. I appreciate you pointing this out.

Is this for sure how it works. Typcially there is one power supply for all the amps and that power gets distributed amongst the amps being used. I would think that it would be best to turn of the non used amps (which you can do in the new Denon's) providing the most amount of power and best sound out of the 5 channels being used.

Great questions, i'd love to hear from Matt how exactly power is divided amongst the channels.

im not sure what you mean as to how power is diveded, but there are 7 discreet amplifiers in the chassis. yes they do share a common power supply but the amp is designed to run 7 channels. whether you have channels 6&7 run rear surround or biamp your mains, there really is no difference. i have done it a dozen times with B&W 602s and 603s even a pair of CM bookshelves. it is a great feature. it is probably less of a strain on the amp than 7.1 as when you biamp a speaker it is dividing the drivers into mid/high and bass. so two of the amplifier channels are only driving the mid/high of each speaker. try it, youll like it. it is a throwback to the days of 2ch hifi.

What does that mean?

So are Klipsch and Jamo....

omean I'd put a Jamo Center channel in with Cornerhorns.

Good point.

What is 'omean'.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

Skip the center and use the phantom center on the Onkyo. Use the Onkyo pre-outs and feed them into a Parasound 5125. Now will not have a tonal imbalance across the front and be able to deliver real power to the speakers.
