We typically use Onkyo and Integra for 90% of our installs.
I have yet to master listening modes for the sources. Now with the multiple options that bluray players offer, netflicks, pandora, bluray, how can I assure my clients they are getting exactly the sound from all the speakers? Specifically for bluray players. When listening to pandora from a bluray I find that it might only play in stereo. Can someone please list how you set up your listening modes in the menu or what discrete listening modes are you programjng in your remote for your sources? Cable/sat? Bluray? Pandora from the bluray? Netflicks and so on.

Most every surround receiver I've seen (including the Onkyo & Integra), will automatically handle a specific format when in normal surround mode. Some receivers will also add a layer of processing on top of this (i.e. THX modes, etc...) that can be selected.
I know a lot of dealers that simply leave the receiver in surround mode and that's it. They don't allow there customers to change modes. I don't agree with this but it does simplify out any confusion some customers might get.

The way I do it is: I have a page that allow users to change things like aspect ratio and surround mode. In my macros, I always have an activity default to a certain aspect & surround mode. But the customer gets a page to change things to a more optimum setting depending on what they might be watching or listining to. A lot of customers never use this page, so they are pretty much on the same level as the first example above. But it is nice for people who know how to use it.
Also: I only give them the useful modes (no gimmicks). I usually have 3 buttons for surround mode (Movie, Music, and Stereo). This activates the auto decoding surround mode, all channel stereo, and straight stereo (different manufactures call them different things but on my remotes, it's all the same). Aspect ratio is usually Full, Letterbox, and cropped (you get the picture).

Another thing I don't agree with is doing this and including every surround mode and/or aspect ratio the device can do. Again, most are gimmicks and don't do anything useful for the system. And it only makes it more complicated for the user.

I leave it in the standard surround mode, then get a feel from the customer if they need (want) the ability to change surround modes afterwards. I sometimes add a page of surround modes on their universal remote (usually an MX450, so it takes a few minutes to learn commands in to a few pages). The Yamaha's that my company uses a lot has a "straight" mode which is great because it doesn't change the incoming audio at all. If stereo comes in, stereo goes out. Just the way it should be, IMO.
You're welcome.

The source menu lets you select DD for a Dolby Digital input, All Ch Stereo for a DD 2 channel input, something else for an analog 2 channel input...whatever you want for whatever kind of input. Check the menu, read the manual, whatever it takes...

I am with Silverspy on this one. Most customers have no idea as to what the modes mean so why make it more confusing for them? Especially when they are watching the news or something and set the mode to 5ch Stereo then put a movie in and don't change the mode back to "normal" or "Straight". If you explain to the customer about the different audio format prior to leaving for the last time they are more likely to understand why they don't get surround when watching the news. If you get a phone call from 1 in 20 customers stating that they want the mode select buttons then you add it in, and may or may not be chargeable for a service call and programming time.

On the other hand if you are always using the same equipment and remotes having the pages pre built and programmed won't take that long to add them to each system you install. Like John stated only use 3 or 4 for both audio and video. Stereo, DD, DTS, Straight for audio and maybe even just an aspect button for video rather than set modes. It may take some non-chargeble time at the beginning for your programmer to create the page and programming but once that is done it is very easy to add it into every system you install.
You can't fix stupid

I think his issue was with a streaming blu-ray... you want dd with a disc, but what about Pandora? Same input. Thus my answer.
