I got a call from a client today saying some guys cut the main RG-11 cable feed to his house while doing some landscaping or something.

Cable Co. wont be out for some time and he's a good client and I'd like to help him if I can.

We don't carry any RG-11 connectors or cable and by the time I order the cable co. will probabaly make it out.

Anybody have a quick fix idea using RG-6 or somthing?

If you know where the break is, solder a jumper between the stingers and solder the shields together. Coat it with two or three coats of liquid electrical tape(NAPA Parts stores) and hope for a half decent picture until the cable co can repair it.

You should be able to get connectors from any 1/2 decent supply house. Splice in some RG6 to get it going if the Rg11 is too short. Cable company probably wont do a better fix than that anyway. Waterproof as per above....
Wireless speakers? Of course Sir. Choose the colour and size you like. As you don't seem to think sound quality is important, I will not plug them in.

can you just run a temporary RG6 from the street to the point of entry on the house?
I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV.
My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

Try Anixter, Graybar, or Wesco. There should be no reason if you're in LA why you cant pickup RG11 cable and connectors off the shelf.

^^^ Best idea so far.

That splicing idea is going to be a disaster especially if running HSI on the coax.

If you really can't find two connectors in all of LA (hard to believe honestly) then why not just roll down the street, find a cable guy, throw him 20 bucks to fix it "on the side" and you'll have it done right and be the hero.

Instead of spinning your wheels just over night it from who ever has it in stock. I'm sure your client will gladly pay the freight.

And don't forget the RG-11 crimp tool you'll need.

Try Holland Electronics in Ventura, or when driving to a job, look for a cable guy and ask to buy a couple of RG11 Connectors.

Afraid to climb? You won't be doing anything illegal as he's already paying for the service.

Maybe they can do a random underground waterproof splice, but if I were running that crew, I'd make them replace the now two pieces of RG-11 with one new piece. The best glue or sealant in the world is not as good as a cable without a splice. That might be the hangup in getting the repair done, too -- it's not small thing.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
