BTW, it is not necessarily the safest place in the world late at night. A few companies back, our bizdev people had taken a client out to dinner. On the way back were waiting to take the tram and got ambushed by a bunch of thugs wanting to take their cash. They ran off and got away from them but it could have been worse. So if you are going, be careful after hours and try not to look like tourist.

Have you been to CEDIA in Atlanta?
You talking about city not being safe at night. Go to Atlanta anytime, day or night, and see how safe you feel... :-)
Besides, if they embraced Amsterdam, late at night they should have been high with a prostitute, not walking the streets... geesh.

No kidding. I was not only worried for my wallet, I was worried for my life when I took a walk past the conference area. How the heck CEDIA decided to have their show there twice in a row is beyond me.

Interesting story about Atlanta. I was there for a business meeting with a few other colleagues. We go and park near Centennial park. As soon as we pull in, a guy comes to us and asks for the parking fee. We give him the $12 or whatever it cost and he wraps that around a huge wad of cash and puts it in his pocket. I thought that was strange but we moved on.

We had our meeting and came back to pick up our car. The guy was there collecting money from other people parking. All of a sudden, another guy pulls in with his car at extreme speed. He slams on his brakes and right then, the first guy takes off running like mad. Curious, we ask the guy what's up. He says he owns the parking lot and people are supposed to put their money in the parking box. But the other guy keeps showing up and taking people's money! He had cost him huge sums of money.

A couple of days later I see a TV program about these scams and how people are getting their cars towed for not paying at the box!

Besides, if they embraced Amsterdam, late at night they should have been high with a prostitute, not walking the streets... geesh.

Well, you can't take every customer to the red light district :).
