I just saw on tv that 120k ipad users had their accounts hacked and all of their personal info and email contacts, etc stolen. Some are celebrities and public officials, including micheal bloomberg. Sorry, I don't have a link to the story because I'm posting from my phone.

Its true.. a friend of mine used his Android phone to text his sister but the text ended up coming to me. Thats how i heard about it.

Android tablets might get hacked also.. you know.. whenever any of them make it out of the vaporware stages.

damn, you dont miss anything do you!!! i love it when someone is on top of thier game.

edit. also, there is no comparison between these two events. the android sms problem was not near as wide spread and unless you where busted cheating by your spouse or some shit, it wasnt a problem. it didnt have to do with account info or important info. out of 2100 texts, it hasnt happened once to me.

From the article:

"Hackers apparently obtained access to the database of 3G iPad owners and their email addresses. The data was obtained by executing a 'brute force' attack on the AT&T website."

Sounds much more like an AT&T issue and not really an Apple one.

Apple security isn't flawless, but this was all on AT&T's end. It effected Apple accounts, but had nothing to do with their hardware or software.

and this news is from the ipad 3g launch. sooo . . can we get back to 2011 now ?
android isnt even shipping a tablet os yet. hardware makers are just shoehorning 2.2 on to tablets and selling them regardless of the experience . .

Apple's really not that secure, it just doesn't make sense for the hacker elite to go after such a small market, though it would be smart seeing as most apple people are ultra careless with their info (as much as windows folk I would assume, but I work on Apples, not windows so I have no clue) and Apple is ultra slow on the uptake to patch known security holes. I've seen some pretty nasty viruses released onto a closed and secure (all apple) networks but in the almost 2 decades and almost 40 apples I've owned I've only seen one semi-major threat on any of my machines.

The text messaging thing has happened on my original iphone where it would try and send a text to my entire phone book, there by locking up my phone solid and my 3Gs would just send it to random people. The 3GS was more random and only caused a problem a few times, but the original was a nightmare and the Apple store employee pretty much stole the phone from me after looking up the case file in the computer.

I keep hearing this argument. It made sense in 1998, but it doesn't make any sense now. Yes, Apple has a much smaller market share, but they have a reputation for being ultra secure (even if they are not). Seems like the fastest way to get your 1337 badge as a hacker would be to make Apple have a press conference about your security breach.

Besides, there was only one Gibson, and that got hacked.
