So, just setup HR23-700 with Panny 3D, popped on channel 106 (espn 3d), and the MX-850 stopped working with the DIRECTV box.

Pickup the OEM remote, still not responding to channel +\- or number presses.

Call DIRECTV, they tell me that the new boxes will only be controlled VIA RF with their OEM remotes, when on a 3D channel.

Seriously? Only RF? What about customers 850? They could care less.

Anyone else seeing this issue, or is there some other way around?

I just can't imagine that this is the only option.

yes, IP/RS232 control is going to be your only option...

...but not with an MX-850...

I had no idea that IR control was lost on a 3D channel. Very strange, they must be worried about interference from the 3D IR emitters. Just another reason to be happy that I make everyone use RS-232.

The best part is since you just *lose* IR control, you'll be able to change to a 3D channel with your MX-850 and then won't be able to change off of it. Sweet.

On similar note, I had a customer call last week about his RTI remote not working on a HR2# DVR, OEM remote doesn't work either. I do a reset still not working. I made sure box was set to IR. Called Directv tech support and they were of no help.

I replaced the box with an extra one the customer had in garage. Works fine now. This 3d thing seems like a clusterf&^k to me.

Is this a "NEW" feature? I have a 3d system in the field that has a DTV hr23 controlled by mx-880z with mrz-260. It all worked fine on 3d channels last time I was at the job. That would be a shame if it quit working.....more $ervice call$ and upgrade$....

Are all of the DTV OEM remotes IR and RF capable? Or do you have to buy the RF remote? Because I thought you have to buy the RF remote temperately, which would make this even more retarded.

You know what it is? They're worried about the crappy IR circuitry on their box. Can't deal properly with any sort of other IR activity going on (you know how easy those things are to overload). So instead of having to fix the hardware, they just disable the thing potentially causing issues, never mind how important it was.

Actually, you could do RS232 with an MX-850 and a MRC-400

Agree. That would be the quickest and cheaper solution to get your customer happy ( until they fix that stupid glitch )

i wonder if these engineers ever think that a customer might have an universal remote or some kind of integration. I remember I used to install DLO ipod docks and they came out with this nice HD dock, it had great GUI, hdmi out but only a tiny ass RF remote and no other communication port. Aint that stupid?

But it lacks 232 control for 3rd party control and no IP info available either for 3rd party

But is a great dock other than that, we have done a couple now

We just installed a 3D set and a HR24-500 Directv box...This should fun now!!
