What's the trick? I'm trying to reprogram an MX-900 on my desk PC which has a locked-down Windows 7 and I run all my programming software inside a virtual machine. I can't get the USB to be seen by the VM at all. I can click "USB" at the top of the screen but it always says "No device found". The USB driver gets installed on the Win 7 side just fine, but that does me no good since CCP is in the VM.

Any tips?

If you have CCP installed in Win7 why not just use that? The URC Driver is still Broken as far as I know.. Youcan use the MS USB Driver though
Go to Device Manager.

Find the "Unknown Device"
Go to Properties>Driver>Update Driver
Select "Browse my COmputer"
Select "Let me Pick..."

UNcheck "Show Compatable"

Select "Microsoft" as the Manufacturer

Select the "USB Sync" driver

As far as the XP Side, I havent run into what you describe. My USB Tab shows the remote and I just have to enable it for my XP Virtualization

I don't have ANYTHING installed on the Win7 side other than the bare essentials we need in the office. XP Mode has all the "stuff" that I actually use all the time (i.e. everything that I also have on my laptop)

So no I don't have CCP on the Win 7 side. The driver appears to install, but never comes up on the the XP side. It doesn't show up as an Unknown Device, either.

I finally just did it on my laptop, but it's kind of a pain when I only need to do about 5 minutes of work and I have to drag the laptop out. Ya know?

Go to the system tray on the Win 7 side and select to disconnect the MX900. Then it will show up in the XP side to be able to connect.

btw, a MX900 will work with Win 7

I used to have an issue with MX900s in VMware Fusion where it did not show up in my list of USB devices so I could disconnect it from my main machine and add it to my Virtual Windows. I ended up needing to edit the "preferences.ini" file (at least I believe that is what it was called) to allow any and all USB devices to connect to the virtual side. I can't find the tutorial I used to do it but the setting can be find if you open either your VM file with notepad or its preferences file with notepad.

For us, "locked down" = linux. Any windows procedures are done in a VM.

Linux host running Virtualbox with Win7 Enterprise installed in a VM with CCP running in that VM. Using the Windows USB Sync in the VM. No issues with USB-connected URC remote being recognized and handed off to CCP.

Not for everyone, to be sure, but tried and tested and works just fine.

I'd be happy with that, but our company is of the opinion that there is no option other than Windows for everything. I don't completely agree, but I do completely understand the reasoning. For people who are unfamiliar with Linux it just adds an unnecessary level of complexity on top of everything...
