This is definitely what the market has been waiting for: [Link: engadget.com]

If it's not simple, it's not sufficiently advanced. |

...... uhhh ... ok ????? I'm sure as hell not wearing them though. I value my optical nerves too much.
However, this does underline the important issue that 3D is never going to become mass-market until we can ditch those ridiculous, uncomfortable synched glasses. I and all my clients demand to be able to watch TV as a 'secondary' and 'off-axis' activity. C'mon, who is going to sit through an average evening of TV wearing those dumb specs? A couple of distorted glances across to your i-Pad, laptop or phone and you've had it with that 'experience'. Maybe, just maybe, there is the odd Bluray title good enough to justify the discomfort factor but mass-market appeal - NEVER. It seems polarised panel display technology has a long way to go yet ........
I wonder in fact how many folks buying 3D-ready panels actually beleive they are already seeing 3D TV? A couple of years back there were a LOT of 'HD' viewers who were convinced that they were watching HDTV when they were actually watching an SD source on an 'HD' pnael. 2D on 3D ...... ???

I don't go shopping for electronics much, so my first real chance to get a look at a wide range of 3D panels was at CEDIA. While I found them all quite effective - the Panasonic gigantic plasma panel showing Avatar was stunning - I noticed that I can see the flickering of the glasses. Which I *know* is going to drive me absolutely nuts - I was one of those people that could never stand to look at a CRT monitor at 60hz, I always had to have them at minimum 85hz, ideally 100-120hz.
