A customer asked me why movies on his tv looked "too real" or looked like they were shot in the 1970s. I didn't really know what he was talking about - I thought maybe the contrast was set too high or something. So we turned to a movie channel and I saw what he meant. I really couldn't put my finger on what was wrong but it seemed like the film was shot with a video camera and perhaps the motion wasn't perfectly smooth. There was also some delay in dialogue but even without that, the video just seemed kind of odd looking. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

its called soap opera effect. go and try to disable almost all of the video processing. i dont know the technical reason of why it does this, but i cant stand it. it looks terrible. most people get used to it but?

Its the TV processing the image at 120/240hz (whatever model you have) on Samsung's I think its MENU>PICTURE>ADVANCED>MOTION - Clear, Smooth, Custom, Off. You should set it to off to make it look like what he would be used to, or choose custom set the first option which is jitter? to 7 and the second option to 3, it will look better than the factory setting. Sorry don't have a Samsung in my home, going on memory.
