I know the have rs232-rs422 converters to send rs232 signals over greater distances. I was wondering if something similar would work if the serial server (moxa) was RS422 controlling RS232 devices.

If you are asking if there are RS-422 to RS-232 converters then the answer is yes. You would be converting balanced serial to unbalanced.

Is a television transmitter is a device for sending video over long distances?  It's not.  It's a device for converting a video signal to a different type of signal so that it can be sent over long distances; the signal is then deconverted at the other end and we get video again. But video is not sent.

The RS422 sends not RS232 but data over longer distances than an RS232 signal can go, but must use a different signal format to do so.  That's why you can't just mix the two types of signals.  It'd be like plugging an antenna into a monitor's video input.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
