Does anybody have the 3.12 firmware for the CT600.1?

Ive got 3.13. But be very cautious updating the firmware. B&K updates are bad to brick a piece

Unless it is absolutely necessary I would not mess with the firmware. If it does brick, which happened a bunch before the door shut. You are in for a pain in the ass getting it fixed...

I already have to send this damn thing in for possibly a bad power supply. There was a time where I really loved B&K! Not now!

We left the job and I decided we will swap it out with our showroom CT unit if there is any more problems. I know it wasn't firmware related but I was hoping (praying) it would fix the problem.

Thanks

I agree. Have you given Elan a look?

I have it's just not a feature rich or has as many inputs (S6's or S8's) as B&K. The one thing that drove me crazy about NuVo was I would add a dual tuner and iPod and there would only be 3 inputs left. Guess what happens when the customer would ask if there was a way to get local sources, then your screwed.

The next project I'm trying a Zektor Clarity Audio with a Snap multi channel amp. I like this route because the customer can select whether they would like the more or less expensive amps.

I agree about the problem that Elan has with lack of inputs on the S8 series. I disagree about lack of features. I have to say I get more out of Elan, like meta data, and reliability. It does take a little rethinking to work with the inputs, but after figuring out how to adjust our designs, we have been much happier with Elan.

i know im dragging up an old thread here but i need some help on the one and only B&K CT600.1 we have ever installed. I installed June 2010. It has been relatively stable but when they are at the home alot the keypads lock up and the only way to reset it is to reset power to the CT unit in the rack. he said everything else has always worked so well he never called to tell me and a simple power reset would fix it. I went over today for unrelated service and asked him how everything was performing and he told me about issue. what was the date of the last firmware for this device and did it address issues like this? if anyone has some tips and also the latest firmware i would like to try.

which keypads?

Elaborate on what precisely you mean by "locking up"

the single gang units that look very similar to a URC MX-850. The entire system is locking up. No keypads work until the CT controller is rebooted. He said it might happen 2 times per month if he had to guess.

Has anyone checked to make sure it is all keypads? Or is it just some of the keypads, and they assume it is all of keypads?

I've never seen one of the URC/B&K keypads "lock up". They are just IR generators, like a remote. Yes , they do have a minor RS232 connection to the CT (just for checking input, col, loudness and EQ status of the zone).

If they quit controlling the zone in which they are plugged into, it is likely the CT600 is locking up, since those miserable things are notorious for locking up. I would not waste time updating firmware, since it is likely not to help. Things you can do to mitigate locking up are the following:

1. Put them on a UPS, as power fluctuations (especially power flashes) can confuse them, requiring a power cycle/reboot.

2. Keep them very cool, since they are very temperamental when the get even warm, let alone hot.

Doing these 2 things won't eliminate the need to reboot but will cut it down to once a month (or so).

I've seen the CT600s do all sorts of strange things, quit responding to RS232 control, quit responding to IR (from a 3rd party remote control via the IR input); quit responding to keypads (IR through the keypad input); make a strange buzzing noise when a zone is powered up. I could go on and on, but the horse is dead and I'm not into flogging dead animals. Reboots nearly always solve it, but it is a pain in the butt.

I think I have seen a keypad lockup, due to a crossed wire on the rj45. But, being something is happening in more than one zone, by your description, I would say fp's diagnosis is what is really going on

We had some similar issues on a few jobs. We ended up changing the RJ45 pin out from A (what we normally use) to B which is what B&K recommends. We also swapped some keypads out with ones we had laying around. I haven't heard of any issues since then so I'm not sure if it was the keypads or the wiring that caused it. I would say to redo the ends and make sure the wiring is done right.
