I have installed these before but have a problem this time; it is feeding a Pioneer 60" plasma.

I keep getting an error message; CEC-101, with some text along the lines of "Cannot control this device - Plasma TV"

This comes up every time a menu is selected or selected from. Multiples sometimes.

The LG BluRay wants to control the TV, which it will do for an LG plasma, even with a panel button push, no remote used.

Does anyone have a button sequence on the remote to get to a "technical menu" inside this BD-590?

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm at the end of my customer's rope, almost!

you dont need technical menu, just go to the regular menu and turn off CEC! is this a joke?

Not a joke! I tried that the very first thing, and figured there must be more to the story when I continued to get the messages.

After two techs and two days, the LG support system gave up and recommended I get the Pioneer techs to figure it out. :)

If your optimism is well-founded, then I think maybe a re-boot and trying again, might bring a happy ending. I have had the customer unplug for tonight.

I will get back to this thread tomorrow with the, hopefully good news result.

Thanks for replying

nope, it was me just being an asshole! it would have been nice if you stated that you disabled CEC. that sounds like it could be a booger. what model pioneer?

Edizzle,

It was me being inexperienced with that Pioneer plasma. I only thought I had disabled it's control functions, before I even posted this. I then thought it was the BlueRay, but could find no one at LG with clues about deeper menus from the remote.

The error message's context clearly implied it was the DVD complaining that it could not control a device; specifically the display. It gave no implication that it was the display not wanting to be controlled by a DVD.

I had properly set three of the four control choices in the Pioneer's CEC menu, but had not thought that setting what I thought was a soft default input, (HDMI 4), would play any part in the rest of the control scheme. Wrong.

Thanks to Pioneer's phone support, I straightened that out, and all is well, no more error messages.

Menu and error message semantics can lose definition across large oceans!

Thanks for jumping in nevertheless, -one needs to be humbled occasionally,  and I was, -by that system, and your excruciating observation  :)
