...It was really important with DVI.

Oh, yeah. Now THAT was a sensible video connector!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

When a DVI connector was plugged in, you knew it wasn't going anywhere...but it was physically bulky. I wish they had been more compact.

If the walls are open it makes more sense to run the cable outside of the conduit so that you have the entire conduit at your disposal if you need it. We do this all the time.

Correct. That was my point EBG...why bother running conduit now for "future proofing" and putting some current cabling technology in it and filling it up...

Run 4 cat 5's , the Snap HDMI cable and a smurf tube.

I'm curious do people like the way Yamaha has changed the inputs around and gave us more difficulty in our integration? I had some issues with the last Aventage unit and getting the HDMI to work properly with a Scientific Atlanta Cable box.

The new GUI was a tad cumbersome, I finally had to read the manual over and over to find out about the up and down arrow when editing inputs. Maybe it's just me getting old.

I still think they could have had a 666 model ;-)

Cat6, and some multimode fiber. Fiber is cheap to rough in and leave for later. If the Cat solutions act up use the fiber.

I like the new Aventage models (1000. 2000. & 3000). The lower models to me seem like carry overs from the previous generation (lack of inputs). The new gui is ok. It just takes time to learn the new gui when it changes. When you say read the manual, don't you mean insert disc.... that is my biggest complaint. If I need to reference something quick, I do not want to get out my laptop to do so (I have all them downloaded).

You're right, I had to find the info on the CD rom manual. But most of us don't read the manuals until dire need anyway.

I'm doing a job now and the equipment is about 65' from the Panasonic plasma. With the TrippLite baluns, which don't have an external power supply, I got a large rectangle that looked like a TV tuner was off-frequency, about 5" from the edge of the screen. It would flash on and off at roughly 3-5 second intervals. This was with Cat5e. That went back and I tried the Spectrum baluns with the power supply at the display end. Same thing unless I set the Panasonic BD player's resolution to 720p. Looks fine, even from about 3'-4'. I heard Tributaries has a 70' HDMI that actually works but it's expensive and since I hate HDMI anyway, I refuse to spend that much on a cable that I expect to fail at some point.

I ran a 1" gray conduit for the speaker cabling and a 1-1/2" for the video/network cabling. The basement isn't completely finished but I had to run these cables across the floor joists and I didn't want anyone hanging the laundry from my cables. If I need to, I will be able to replace any of the cables to the TV location easily.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."
