Sorry if this redundant post but I tried forum search to try to find a post on RC.
I have two different installs going on where the clients spent the money for a good remote with RF to IR extender in the main room but have cable boxes in bedrooms where they want to hide them but want a simple lower cost solution to add IR control to the boxes.

I know that Comcast has plug in IR extenders for their low cost digital boxes and I took the IR extender from the cheapo box and plugged it into the back of the DCX 3400 and it didn't work. My thought was maybe the port was turned off in the software or something like that.

The Cisco RNG 200 has a port on the back but I have not tried to plug in the IR extender into that jack.

I know that Mxnxprice has a wireless IR extender for around $22.00 but was wondering if there was a better solution.

Finally, if the wireless IR extender is the only route (other than a wired extender kit from xantech or proficient). Is there one that might let me plug in two extra emitters (one plug to two emitters) to control a cable box and DVD?

Thanks.

to my knowledge, those ports do not work for controlling the box. i think if they work at all, they are for controlling a vcr or something. people have tried for years on hear to make them work with no luck
I love supporting product that supports me!

I wonder why the el cheapo Comcast digital boxes work with an extender but not the new ones.

Don't think u can use an extender on the RNG200. the owners manual identifies the port as an IR port and says it is "reserved for future use"...... dunno for sure, but would love to use an extender

Weird. I installed a DCX-3400 today in a lowboy cabinet and it came with the IR extender cable in the box, worked perfectly. ( provider -Shaw cable systems, Western Canada)

Secondly I might be misreading your question, but you can use dual IR emitters out of a single port. For example in my playroom I have a russound saphire ir receiver in the wall and it connects to a 4 port ir block, from there it controls 7 devices which have (each port feeds a dual head IR emitter)

These ports do not work period. The bigger issue is the Cisco RNG Converter Box uses a higher IR frequency than previous Scientific Atlanta or Motorola Converter boxes and IR Kits from several manufacturers have not worked on them. I installed a Peerless HD Flow Pro Wireless HDMI with IR pass-through kit yesterday and it will not work with the Cisco RNG Converter. I was told the older style remote issued by the cable company may work (apparently the change is in the remote itself not the converter) but no guarantee. The only other option is get your customer an older SA or Motorola converter or upgrade to the X1 platform which use RF when paired to the tv.
