Ed,

Might be a nonstory to you, but it's my life.
I support and work with dozens of dealers who are not just clients, but friends.  Trying to paint me as some kind of anti-dealer guy is just wrong.  I want my friends to do well and make money.  Doing business as usual has kept us a "cottage industry", stop being a tech and start being a business person.  Play with your toys after hours and you will have a business.  Play at work, and you will only be buying yourself a job.

Mark...I like what you said here!!

"I don't want to use in-wall iPads, but would rather go with the new Control4 infinity Edge screens. iPads are great, but are not a dedicated control screen. Someone could go off on a weather program or game and never find the home controls. Simplicity is key for our clients, as they all want to quickly turn something on, up, down, etc. iPads offer too many choices for some areas where an interface needs to be restricted to a few buttons.""

Finally.. I personally not for the whole "apple" revolution within the CI industry, reason why I would NEVER look at savant..i'm sure it works for some, but i wouldn't want to have a product that relies on the success of apple.. true is here to stay so I should deal with it but "I DON'T WANNA" (in stubborn kids voice) tried to use it in a home theatre once it was a nightmare..

DJ,

Thanks for the support, but keep your head down.

I like to use what works best, not just what works.

Apple's income now makes it equal to South Africa in value, not going away any time soon.

Can we at least stop calling a $20M install. It is not a $20M install, and that kills any credibility of anyone referring to this project as such.

Mark, do you want to read about Ed's projects? He does some unique stuff. What about mine where I deal with trying to explain to rural contractors in the Appalachian Mountains why the $5mill vacation house they are building should have automation, and then butting heads with electricians that dont like that my lighting system changes the way they wire? No? But these are our lives so shouldnt they make great articles?

Get the point yet?

They're not actually priceless - we have just chosen to not put the 2G prices on the website at the request of our dealers. If you "call" for pricing, or signup for a dealer account you will be told the details.

I put some audio in the club house of a very exclusive country club. Can I count the total cost of the entire club, or do I have to just go with the cost of the club house? Someone please explain to me the official rules for stretching the price for bragging rights.

"Today's subsystems are so powerful that it makes going with Control4 much easier. The one area we are still working out is the interface and larger touchscreens. The client wants to have a floor plan view of systems like security, lighting, etc. and a 28,000-square-foot home on a 7-inch panel. That's pretty much a joke. This is where having a system like Vantage, with the ability to talk to Control4, gives us additional options. Control4 plans on a producing a larger screen over the next year, but I can't hang my hat on that and need a working plan now."

Might this have been a reason to not go with Control4 on such a larger project?  Seems strange to me to use Vantage to control Control4.
