I have never had to use a voltage sensor before so I am very ignorant about it. Would anyone lead me to a place that shows how to work it? I think I know but would just like a little guidance if there is anyone willing to show me. Thanks.

what do you want to use the voltage sensor for? Probably the most important question!

A Motorola cable box. Discrete codes for those things are tough.

you would need a wall wart and switched outlet to make use of that voltage sensor on the cable box, have you confirmed a switched outlet?
in my experience, the outlet on the moto cable boxes is constant, even when set to switched, video sensors work with these sometimes, some have used them on the digital coax output

you may be better off using a URC video sensor connected to the green connector on the component output, or the yellow connector on the video output. this doesnt work for all cable boxes though, since some of them still have voltage on the line even if they are turned off. if a video sensor won't work, then you will need some sort of current sensing device that will work in conjunction with the urc voltage sensor. Xantech makes a nice model that will do the trick. It comes in three parts Xantech CSM-1 [Link: xantech.com]Xantech CBCSM1 [Link: xantech.com]Xantech 781ERG [Link: xantech.com]The cable box power cable plugs into the CSM1, which plugs into an outlet. The pigtail on the CSM1 then plugs into the CBCSM1, which gets powered with the 781ERG. You then run a 2 conductor wire between the URC voltage sensor and the CBCSM1 and connect to the Pull Up and Gnd connections on the CBCSM1. The other end connects to the 2 pin connector on the URC voltage sensor. (polarity isnt important on this connector) In the programming, you tell the MSC400 what type of sensor is plugged into the sensing port. (voltage or video) And you set up If/Else statements in your macros.

Still use the wall wart with switched outlet on the back of Motorola boxes. Never had an issue, work perfectly.

that's what i get for doing 99% DirecTV. I forgot about the switched outlets on cable boxes.

You don't need the connecting block for the Xantech stuff. You can either snip the 3.5 plug off or use a breakout (ala easyadapters.com) with the URC voltage adapter and power it using the 400. Also, I haven't had much success with the voltage sensors and the Motorola boxes - especially DVRs. They have the same draw in standby as they do when powered on. I like the light sensors over the number display on the front of the cable box ( SMLIT01). More information here on how to do this without the connecting block: [Link: remotecentral.com]

I have video sensors also. I will try those if you think for the Motorola DCH6416. I hope it works.

Yeah, but I already have video sensors. This way I don't have to go out an buy anything.

Bringing back an old thread is the breakout from easyadapters that i would need to connect to a Xantech CSM1 a SJ-TB3+
