Im confused, bought the avr 3311 november 01, dealer says i should have a free update but redirects me to Germany, since we dont have a Dutch importer anymore. Write email to denon germany, get reply "the upgrade will be availeble nov.20" Its now 25 november still no update. Write germany again, now the answer is i should go to my dealer.....Is this to keep the customer busy till the update FINALY comes??

Not sure what the launch date is in Germany. The date for the USA is Dec. 1.

Hey Matt,

How's it going. I was just wondering, it's mid-December and it doesn't look like the update is out yet. Do you have any inside info re: a release date?

Thanks, as usual.

No info at the moment here. I thought this was a go back in Nov. We can't launch until the other party approves.

Why is it $50? I bought two of these (3311 and a 4311) because it was touted that the Airplay feature would be a free firmware update.

Where and who touted it to be free?

you bought $3,200 worth of Denon receivers because there was a free apple airplay update planned? so you would have bought something different or nothing at all if it had been known that it was going to be a $50 upgrade? which it was pretty well known.
I love supporting product that supports me!

It was advertised at CEDIA and on our website as $50 MSRP for the Upgrade.

Dealers have a demo program, for demo use. Dealers should email me for info.

You could always get the same feature from Apple for $100!

The apple includes video airplay, netflix as well as all the apps, so it may be a better value anyway.

Hi Matt, that doesnt actually seem to be true and would love to hear how you believe it is supposed to work.
I have just purchased a Denon 4311 and want to purchase the Airplay option as it looks great, however, I have been following the 4311 threads on AVS for some time.
A few Denon and Marantz owners have recently taken up the Airplay option only to find it is "locked" or "hijacks" the Main Zone of the AVR. You can also turn On or Off Zone 2/ Zone 3, but you HAVE to have the Main Zone on for the others to work. In a HT situation this is useless.

In most cases, myself included, Airplay will be for playing music in external Zones (like you can with the standard Net/ USB interface) and extremely unlikely to ever be played in the main zone in my HT. It seems the Denon only presents 1 "speaker" for Airplay to use, which defaults and is tied to the main zone.

AVS are running an FAQ thread with a few comments in it seperate to the normal 4311 thread. Link to FAQ

Until Denon confirms or denys this is the permanent functionality, a lot of folks are buying an ATV and using this as the Airplay interface. The current implementation of Airplay appears to be extremely limited. Do you know if this is likely to change at all?

thanks for reading

cheers

The new ATV2 supports AirPlay w/ music and video. Maybe photo, I don't have one for testing. Not sure what else to explain on my comment.

While I am aware of this from using the feature, I'm not certain as to where the implementation guidelines came from, Apple or Denon. I am not certain as to how the feature will grow within the existing products and or future products to come.

Please note though, when adding an ATV or Airport Express these products also only present themselves as 1 "speaker".

If you look at it from another products usage, you would need multiple ATV2/Airports to achieve the same outcome with discrete control.

Maybe that's the solution, Denon+AirPlay for "Main" then ATV2 "Multi"(with a Digital to Analog converter on it). Now you'll have two feeds/control! Some will say that my suggestion is not realistic. Pause and consider how many CI's have installed multiple SAT/CBL boxes just for discrete Multi Zone music/control at a much higher cost + monthly subscription.

Sorry, I don't have any other info at this time on how the feature will evolve.

thanks for reading

cheers
