so tonight when I got home I sat down and fired up my 3311ci to watch a movie, right before I started it my AVR told me that there is an update available. I wanted to watch my movie so I didnt bother. After the movie I came into my office and decided to catch up on the Apple releases.

After reading about itunes 10 and whats new in it I ran across the Airplay and that denon is supporting it along with marantz and a couple other manufactures.
I am currently updating my reciever and still waiting but is the an update to include This?

to be honest I dont really care, I have an Apple Tv and barely use it. but it seems that the features are exactly like an apple TV but built in, Pretty Cool if this is the case.

It sounds pretty slick. And if B&W and Denon and others are going to actively support it, it might end up being useful. Denon AVR in the living room, media room, and B&W Zeppelins in bedrooms, office, etc....fire up iTunes from your iPad or iPod/iPhone, and cue up your favorite tunes through the whole house. Not bad.

The Denon App is also available for download from the App store, it's free. Demo mode only for the time being, activation will follow soon in the AVR-xx11CI models.

This feature will be activated around CEDIA, target release is not to far out.

Maybe Denon (and the others) will include a wake on LAN feature that will allow iTunes to turn the AVR on if you stream tunes to it and it is in standby?

Just downloaded the App, pretty slick! hopefully it works as good as it looks. is it two way communication I.E if im listening to Pandora can I look down on my Pod/Pad and see the artist and title information?

ETA: For activation?

This will be an awesome bridge until I can get prodigy up and running with my system.

Also, Matt Just curious what did this recent update include? or is it just all the stuff thats coming out?

is there a place to view what the updates include? I assume it might be under the CI section of the web. My rep cant seem to get me under the DenonCI Very annoying, I fill out the information and the guy never replys back for me to activate account.

Email me your info and who your rep/dist is for CI, I will activate your portal account. On your other questions, only so much I can say until our announcement of all of the new toys. Please stay tuned. Plus, I need to get a working model with app activated so I am able to confirm all feature before commenting. Thanks for understanding.

I am curious about AirPlay support. Your site lists it for the 4311CI as having AirPlay support, but does not really say what it will offer or if it is the only one. I am particularly interested in your 3311CI, and also if it will support streaming video content to the receiver or just audio.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry Tom. Gonna need another two weeks until I am mentioning and specifics on the any new features. I would much rather have my hands on product and play with it before commenting. Thank you for your understanding.

Sonos

Sonos does not stream video /photos / and audio
Sonos also does not integrate in to any device out there except their own.

Airplay can be implemented by any company in to their devices.
That's what makes it huge.

I understand that. In the past I have setup a test rig with an AVR-3310 so as to quantify its sellable functions.Firmware update failed on first unit.Second unit went through and I networked a computer to it as well as a wired ethernet Denon dock seperately. In my opinion the ip control over the denon was not ready for release by a long shot, and the user interface for the pictures, music, Rhapsody was, lets just say, less than imaginative. So now Apple is in the picture. Software, firmware, etc. from both Denon and Apple to contend with. To do multiple zones buy a bunch of IP Denons? Will the user interface really be up to speed?
Don't get me wrong, I would love to see this product be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but given Denons stance on streamed content from Netflix,Vudu,Pandora, etc. with their Blurays and the premature ip control release, I cant say Im anxious. And I realize they are talking about a firmware update for Netflix this fall.Big deal.
I wonder, when these companies come out with a product, do they bother to check out the competition, or do they even care? I bet if they did they would save thousands in R&D.I sell Denon and will continue to for AV receivers. But I as far as Bluray, networked product, etc., nah.
Why did they bother with a 12-channel amp and not have a multi-zone preamp to go along with it??? Weird marketing decisions.

Sonos

From what I can see, for $349, I get a box that is not even competitive with $99 AppleTV boxes. It streams music only, not music, video, and photos. We will have to see how good Denon's implementation of AirPlay actually is, and how full featured it is (if it handles video and pictures for example), but with the $250 cost savings per ZonePlayer 90, if I have three locations, I save enough for a Mac Mini to be my music server. That will let me stream different playlists and movies for each location and let me watch Netflix as well.

Sonos just does not seem competitive now, and with an increasing number of AirPlay clients, I think it will become even less so.
