I usually use Denon but I have a Yamaha RXV1600 with surround/presence terminals.

The first are labeled "surround/zone 2/3"

The second is "surround back"

And the third is "presence/zone 2/3".

The manual doesn't specifically say to connect the 5.1 rears to a particular connection although it is implied that I would connect to "surround back" and then my client's patio speakers to either "surround/zone 2/3" or "presence/zone 2/3" and go into the setup menu and assign.

With Denon I would use "surround back" for zone 2 and connect 5.1 rears to "surround/zone2/3".

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Surround for the surrounds and presence for zone2 should work. If you hook the surrounds to any other output they wont be connected properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

So connect 5.1 rears to "surround/zone2/3" and use "surround back" on zone 2 speakers?

P. 18 shows all speakers connected, ignoring the second zone. The 5.1 connections are those shown, ignoring back and presence speakers.

See P. 105 for using the internal amplifiers for additional rooms. Note that they only show one pair of speakers on each zone. That's their subtle hint that there's not enough power to run multiple second or third zone speakers.

You have the manual, right?

Since you're used to Denon, you should be looking for the microprocessor reset before setting up programming. The closest this unit comes is on Page 112 where you're told to unplug the unit for 30 seconds to reset the microprocessor.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thanks guys. I called Yamaha and got the same answers you gave me. I was tripping out because I had to go to another job.

Still curious: did you have the manual?
