Crack the cover off and hot glue it to whatever emitter cover you want to use. Or bury it inside the component and put a black circle dot sticker over the window.

URC emitters are self hooded....

Or at least I've not needed to use a hood on one.... Ever
I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV.
My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

I've always used a dab of clear silicone adhesive..

Open the cover, glue the emitter inside the gear.

On a cable box, or leased sat receiver, I just use a dab of adhesive silicone and cover the raw emitter with a circle of black tape on the front...

sell the emmitters?

If URC does not provide emmitters that work properly within your system design, sell the proper ones.

I use black tape also.. i just didnt want to admit my trunk slammy ways on a public forum :D

I have emitters inside so they usually dont interfere but when they do i cut a piece of tape just the size of the IR window and cover it.

Yeah, hot glue it the way thanks to you guys. I'll never go back. I have noticed, however, that you shouldn't press hard while holding. If you don't make the glue at least 1/16" thick under the emitter and you ever have to remove it, you are in the same sH*tbucket as if you had used silicone.

In other words, use plenty of glue and press just hard enough to spread it to the edges of the emitter and no more. Then it is still strong but you still have something to grab onto for peeling it off after twisting off the emitter.

URC had one product a few years ago that came with 2.5 mm plugs and sockets, so everybody else's emitters won't work with that system. I'm sorry I don't remember the model. I'm just warning you to check the plug and socket size before you get replacements.

The story I got from a URC trainer (admission, really) was that URC's QC department didn't notice that the product used the smaller jack, and they went into production before the final QC guys -- installers -- noticed the problem.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

This is something you pros may not want to do but....I lay the emitters on a piece of cardboard and coat them with "liquid electrical tape" made by Strarbrite and avaliable in NAPA stores. Most times I coat them and let dry and then apply a second coat. It dries to feel just like electrical tape. I started using it for buried splices for satellites and it never failed to stay dry after many years.
After coating the emitters I just stick them on the front and forget them.
