So we installed our first Samsung 3D display yesterday. As I was calling the cable co. to activate the box the displayed turned off. And it never turned back on, so glad Best Buy talked the client into this upgrade...

I would assume that if an existing High Speed HDMI cable can handle 1080p/60 and most Bluray movies would be 1080p/24 then the 3D equivalent should be 1080p/48 therefore should require less bandwidth than 1080p/60.

But I'm only assuming :)

Weird? Did you figure it out? Was it an HDMI Control issue?

I'm still playing around with the one that we put in last week. To get full 3D from the Bluray, you have to run HDMI direct to the display, so the only way to get HD Audio is through analog preouts, which is okay.

Depending on how the clients likes it, we may just stick with running the Bluray through the AVR and limiting 3D to what the TV can convert it to. We need to sit down and do some comparisons with the client and so we can weigh out what's worth it to him.

Negative, we unplugged all cables and tried another outlet. Still kept on clicking. At that point I suggested they call their place of purchase.

Here is a good paper explaining the bandwidth requirements of various 3D formats - [Link: keydigital.com]

Does anyone know of a 3D home projector? In my opinion 3D projectors would would be more sellable than 3D 52" LED's. I have seen no discussion about whether the major players have one in the works, and if there is new screen technology to accompany it. I could see calling an existing theater client and upgrading their projector to 3D. I don't see the same oportunity with TV only clients.

I was also curious about of axis viewing. Anyone with direct experience care to comment?

I saw (online only) some setups where people were using 2 separate Panny 4000 PJs to do 3D, but other than that, I have not seen a 3D PJ.

I imagine there are 2 ways to do it for the home environment: polarized glasses (dual projectors and a screen that maintains light polarization), or LCD shutter glasses like current LCD/plasma solutions are using (could be done with one high framerate projector).

However I really haven't heard what companies are planning.

Woo hoo, 3rd display was the charm. We had the guys do it so I never saw the display up and running. 1 out 3, this could be just like RTI... ;)

All of the Digital Cinema players are well into this.

Barco, Christie, Digital Projection.

How do you think that Avatar was displayed at the theaters in 3-D?? :)

All this talk about 3D is making me sick to my stomach.  In my opinion.....it's all just a ploy for manufacturers to find a way to market their products with some new fancy feature that has no content for mainstream.

OK, so Mitsubishi is trying to market it this year...and Sony too.  Last time I checked those two manufacturers didn't have the majority of market sales last year, nor were their product offerings anything to brag about either. It's just an example of one manufacturer trying to scrap bottom and find a feature to differentiate themselves from another.

I'm going to start marketing my flat panel TV install services as being "3D Ready" and guess what....I'll probably see a spike in sales and be laughing all the way to the bank.
