I am using an onkyo 607 receiver, Dish Network, and a memerex dvd player he already had. universal remote 350 base station. I have not been back to the customers home to solve this problem. I am not looking for the fix as much as I am looking for the exact cause. Rumer is there are at least 5-10 other homes with the same problem. I'd like to fix them all.
I will be out there next week to continue to try these ideas.

I am not sure if any of you guys watch the show, House on T.v.
It is basically a brilliant group of doctors trying to diagnose the most difficult
Medical problems in their patients. The Doctors opinions often vary and go against each other but ultimately they will bring it to the main guy named House who then gives his final diagnosis and saves the patient.

My blog experience has been reminding me of this show. Still trying to figure out which one of you is House.

You have been told repeatedly what the problem is. Its the HDMI balun. It has been well documented they often have problems due to motors in the home. So far I dont think anyone has an answer as to why they have issues with motors or how to correct those problems. But the issue is the HDMI balun and the motors.

You could call Ethereal ( they have been working on this) and see if they have something to fix it.

i think he is using a miriad of wires from the orginal HDMI cable plus a single cat5. I dont think this would ever give reliable results. Whats wrong with using a pair of cat 5s?

I dont think he has a pair of cat5s. So the logical solution would be to use one cat5 and send component. But he probably doesnt know you cant see a difference in 720P and 1080P on any screen under 6'

i was staying out of this until now. are you serious? what HDMI scared, blind, or just crazy person told you this. i can see a difference, and i have heard this before. try it for yourself, dont believe everything you are told or read. i went through a monster cable training where i was told that monster was the only company that had a component cable that would get 1080P from the PS3. so i would have to say, that i quite possibly have heard some of the craziest stuff while working in this field. as for the issue that the OP was discussing, the HDMI format is vary dependent on stable voltage and motor loads are anything but stable loads. unstable load=voltage fluctuations (spl?). i have full faith that brent or some other industry guru will fix this soon enough, but as of now HDMI baluns just arent stable enough for me( FOR ME, i dont care how good yours work). i do believe that the HDMI balun is a powered device, so you might want to concider putting the balun on a UPS or power conditioner.

the client has a memorex DVD, probably not gonna spring for the fix to his issue, lol. maybe you should try an audioquest field termination HDMI kit instead of patching with a peice of cat5. just a suggestion.

you are welcome to question my integrity, your opinion of me is completely irrelevent. i am telling you i can tell the difference, and i have tested this on side by side identical sets, because of this very statement. i understand that since you either have poor eyesight or havent tried this yourself , you have the right to call bullshit, but you are wrong. during the ISF class i recently took with Joel Silver he eplained that we only see in 1 megapixel detail. the additional detail that exists in the higher resolution provides a smoother picture. you can PM me if you wish to further this, i said you were wrong, you called bullshit, so now instead of hijacking this thread we can continue this conversation elsewhere.

I dont know that I care enough to continue it. If you can (and I really think its in your mind) I would say its because you look at HD images every day. But no customer is going to see that little difference. Just like I can pin an MP3 every time, but customers cant until I A/B MP3 with a CD.

The electrician will be fine with component.

Wow! This got out of hand really quick! Look, This is a 2 story home. I only had a single cat 5 to work with and a cut up hdmi cable. I thought that I ordered a single cat 5 hdmi balun, but instead i got a dual cat 5 hdmi balun. I rarely work with Vizio tv's. I knew they sucked but did not know that they had hdmi problems.
Seems like there are some VIZIO experts out there. Glad I am not one!
I didn't even know if using the cut up hdmi for a cat 5 connection would even work until I tried it, and I am sure if I had to, I would do it again. I don't give a crap about 720 or 1080 debates in regards to this problem.

I was talking to another Electrician friend about this today when He mentioned he has been called out on at least 5 other jobs with the same problem. 3 of them are not using hdmi baluns at all.

Still looking for house....

I know you are out there.

You would use a single cat balun? OMG, you really are a sadist.

How many times do you have to be told how to fix a problem? Stop wasting time, get a component balun, move on, and stop wasting our time.

1. You never bothered to mention you tried the component.

2. I find it hard to believe you had the same issue with component, but what ever.

3. If you had the same problem with component then its either the TV or the source. Get back to basics and put a local source at the TV. Add devices back to the system one at a time to see when the problem comes in.

And learn to use these for diagnostic [Link: summitsource.com]

btw, do some research on HDMI and HDMI baluns. Dont ever bring up a single cat HDMI solution again.

Dear Dr. Bad Ass,

The Component fix didn't work. I will try what you have suggested. I really don't need the constructive criticism, or the fact that you insisted on the component fix. I tried the component fix 2 days ago, but you were so adamant about shutting me up it became funny to me. Relax man. I'm just trying to learn like everybody else.

Again, I will keep trying your ideas, And I promise, I will let you know as soon as I get it fixed.
