New kid on the block... I hope he didn't read all of this to come to that conclusion. ;-)

What conclusion? I've forgotten what this thread is even all about... :-)

Oh yeah, Wesley! Where is good old Wesley? Why won't he at least chime in and give us an "update" ?
Why all the fighting and cussing? Can't Dave play nice? We're just here to learn and have fun. It was a harmless jab, laugh and get over it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Guys,

I NEED YOUR ATTENTION: I have been working on a new standard for personal transportation wiring. I propose that the trunk space and back seat of every vehicle be converted into cabling compartments and filled with wire harnesses using molded plugs w/ 50 conductors per plug. Each harness will be routed to the engine compartment so that future needs for audio, video, analyzing sensors, neon lighting, etc can be tapped into a desired harness, and routed to anywhere in the vehicle. I need all you installers buy-in for this critical standard to get off the ground.

Thanks for your open-mindedness,

WM

Umm...why are you doing this when the CEA has just voted and approved a standard for distributed audio wiring and there is already a structured wiring standard?

I suggest you contact Walt Zerbe and ON-Q and he can explain the standard that was approved to you. OnQ has been training all of their dealers on this wiring standard and it will cover pretty much any manufacturer's product lines.

Hey K-one and the other newbs to this thread...

Wes is long gone, and the thread started almost 2 years ago.

The whole thread is ridiculous anyway, as is the thought of a "standard" considering how every CEDIA and CES, we see a couple dozen new products that use some propreitary new technology for communication that takes a yet unseen combination of cabling and/or modules to pass along some other cabling. The manufacturers are the ones that are missing the point, not us...

Besides, haven't your customers been telling you??
"It's all going wireless anyway". I hear that all the time from mine.

Anyway, we still enjoy poking fun at the idea...

I had considered luring this Wesley clone to the top of the empire state building and pushing him off the edge, but I was afraid I'd be arrested for making an obscene clone fall.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

So, due to this thread, am I supposed to believe that doing all alarm wire on my last home theater pre-wire was a bad thing? Should I standardize everything I do like always using speaker wire to wire up speakers?

This is crazy talk.
