Besides the typical meetings and basic walking of the show for free goodies; what new products are you after? I have a few items of interest but curious to hear about others. I plan to look at the newest Speakercraft, Elan items as well as items for outdoor living and media storage/serving.

Bruce you will be reading this, are you going?? Matt going??

Thanks,

Tyler

HomeLogic may be showing some items which will outline their future path...

Nothing new to ship for a while, and not anything they would want elaborated on a public site.

(hint, this should be an IP discussion)

I'm wondering if Elan will be showing their new Elan Tools.

Im not going to Cedia but i thought this "review" (rant) of a new Crestron product would fit nicely in your thread...

Crestron MLX-2

I have not seen one of these in person. I saw a photo of it at crestron.com and it made me sad. Are these guys asking questions before they design these things? IMO this "new" product is an AV Receiver Rebadge from somewhere. Does anyone recognize it? Here are a few reasons it made me sad.......

No touchscreen, no color display
I'm a big fan of the URC MX-850 so this is not the end of the world for me but it would have been nice. The MX-850ish hard buttons will work well but even URC is offering color now. Why is Crestron offering a new product that looks like an old URC product?

Power On Power Off hard buttons
IMO PC programmable remotes do not need hard power buttons. Especially at the Crestron level where every single product should have discrete commands.

Where is the Previous Channel button?
What's up with remotes not having this button? RTI had me scratching my head but now Crestron?

What I Think Of The Hard Buttons

Power Off Not needed
Power On Not needed
10 Blank LCD Buttons GOOD Could be better
Back GOOD This button appears to be used to flip pages on a given source
Device BAD this button should say HOME
Next GOOD This button appears to be used to flip pages on a given source
Red Dot GOOD/Not needed Many products are now using the color dots
Green Dot GOOD/Not needed Many products are now using the color dots
Yellow Dot GOOD/Not needed Many products are now using the color dots
Blue Dot GOOD/Not needed Many products are now using the color dots
Setup/menu BAD This button should say "Menu"
OSD BAD This should not be a hard button
SURR BAD This should not be a hard button
RTN BAD This should not be a hard button
Channel Up GOOD
Channel Down GOOD
Volume Up GOOD
Volume Down GOOD
Mute GOOD
Status/help BAD This should not be a hard button

We only need 1 Play/Pause and it should not say ipod or HDD or anything else above it.
Play/Pause (ipod) BAD
Play Pause (HDD) BAD

EQ BAD This should not be a hard button
Rewind GOOD
Play GOOD
Fast Forward GOOD
Track Back GOOD
Track Forward GOOD
Record GOOD
Pause GOOD
Stop GOOD
1-9 (letters) GOOD Also has the letters for anyone who needs them
Blank Button BAD Not sure what this button is for i think it says RC SETUP (Remote Control?) under it. Should not be here.
0/10 BAD This button should just be 0
+10 BAD I have never used this button and it definately does not need to be a hard button It should have been ENTER based on where its located

Hard Buttons They Missed

Hey Ty...

Nope, our boss is insisting on going to the Denver High-End tweak show instead, in fall, sometime!

I'd love to go to this CEDIA but Matt & I have a few boat jobs and stuff to take care of. I'd like to see if the Cineversum projectors will be on display...

I hope you have a good show tour. You guys actually have a pretty healthy line-listing of product these days.

O/T Hey, are you still selling those European license plates???

I would suggest revising this post. I was thinking I could go if it got changed to Oakland. I have family in the Bay Area and would love to go to CEDIA.

I checked the CEDIA site and now I think you mean the game is in Oakland.

Didn't think about that.

The mention of Elan in the OP made me think "does Elan even have any new products coming out?" as I was at Tech Week and the only new thing they had was the 10" ViaValet... and that's already shipping.

We have a lot of exclusive cedia news -- especially closer to the show -- at www.cedianews.com.

I can say there will be interesting things from:
URC, RTI, Netstreams, Microsoft (Media Center TV Pack), Nuvo, Russound, HAI, to name a few. (I''m still getting the pre-show scoop from Runco, Control4, Lifeware and others.)

Also, and I don't want to usurp this thread, but if you care to win a little prize from Sanus at CEDIA, jot your thoughts about the show here.

OSD BAD This should not be a hard button
RTN BAD This should not be a hard button

RTN would be channel return
OSD would be info or display

I guess some of the problems with this come from the fact that every TV/DVD/set top box manufacturer uses different terms for these functions. Some use "Display" some use "Info" some use "OSD" some use others.. Channel return I have seen on remotes as "Jump", "CH RTN", "Prev", "Last" and "Back".
